After his seven-store Washington, D.C. chain closed in early 2010, former MyerEmco CEO Jon Myer said “the future of every multi-store specialty retailer is extremely lean”. Myer added that “it’s not coming back.” But he is coming back. For “a tidy sum,” Myer bought MyerEmco’s brand, customer list and intellectual property. He’s launched a new company, MyerConnex, and hired eight former MyerEmco employees. “We’re booked out for eight weeks,” Myer tells CE Pro, confirming reports that he is back in business, adding that he’s looking to hire another installer and…

When MyerEmco announced it is shutting down it got people thinking about the future of the specialty electronics retail — a market in which regional retailers are struggling, downsizing and dropping like flies. A day after announcing his stores’ closings, here's how Jon Myer summed up the specialty market: “The future of every multi-store specialty retailer is extremely lean,” he said, adding that when Tweeter went under, it effectively meant the death of half of the multi-store specialty retail business in the country. “If you are a multi-store regional specialty…

MyerEmco, a seven-store specialty retailer based in the Washington, D.C. metro area, is closing its doors and liquidating inventory over the next 60 days. Just fewer than 100 employees will lose their jobs. Jon Myer, CEO of MyerEmco, speaking candidly with CE Pro about his decision to close the venerable 55-year-old chain his father started, cites three reasons for the collapse, calling it a "triple whammy." Declining Margins: The company was hit by the "declining margins of products and the trailing credit game that vendors are playing." Myer tells CE…

Specialty retailer MyerEmco is going out of business after 55 years, reports NBC Washington. Gaithersburg, Md.-based MyerEmco sent a letter to employees saying it was out of money and could not secure any more loans, according to the report. "Our bank is no longer willing to finance the business, and this leaves us without the critical working capital we need to operate," MyerEmco CEO Jon Myer tells NBC Washington. MyerEmco's Facebook page confirms the closing by saying, "Unfortunately, our greatest sale ever will be our last." The following message from…
