It’s been several years since iPod streaming docks were the rage, as manufacturers instead turned their attention to working with Apple’s iPad, but there’s no denying the benefits that a good iPod-based system can deliver as a single-room solution. Robert Archer | 01/13 08:14 AM,
0 Comments
Back when Jim Lackey, president of Natural Sound, first opened his business, consumers were entrenched in audiophile music. Alternative entertainment solutions - aside from two-channel stereo - were few and far between during Natural Sound's early years. Consumers were just getting their first look at the original gaming system (the Atari 2600). Since then, consumer electronics have evolved into VCRs, personal computers, DVDs, the Internet, HD and now streaming media. Natural Sound, like other small consumer electronics stores, has had to add these new technologies into their portfolio. The company…

Control4 has added an iPod dock to its roster of certified products. Channel Vision’s ARIA iBus on-wall dock for iPod (model P-3036) passed the rigorous testing process required of all Control4 Certified devices. Channel Vision joins a small but growing list of Control4 Certified manufacturers in the residential market, but appears to be one of the first or only providers of certified iPod docks. Soul Electronics SL300 Headphones
Robert Archer | 08/24 03:28 AM,
At one time the headphone category was a niche part of the consumer audio market, but today that's all changed. Portable products like the iPod, iPad, iPhone and devices that run the Android operating system are driving consumers to look for higher performing sound solutions than the stock ear buds that ship with many mobile electronics. Soul Electronics' top-of-the-line SL300 headphones are the result of a collaboration with the entertainer Chris "Ludacris" Bridges and the headphones are engineered to deliver a better listening experience than standard ear buds or headphones.…

RS-232 for iPhone/iPad, No Jailbreak Required
Julie Jacobson | 12/28 09:47 AM,
11 Comments
Getting serial commands to and from iPhones, iPads and other iOS devices isn’t terribly new. The trouble is that most existing solutions require users to jailbreak the device. Not so with Redpark Development Development, whose serial cables were created under Apple’s “Made for iPod” program. The company explains that its just-released cables and companion iOS apps are ideal for serial devices such as point-of-sale kiosks, scientific instrumentation, industrial process control equipment, networking equipment, and devices used in home and office automation. We imagine it could be useful for product diagnostics…

The End of Traditional Remotes & Touchscreens Not All Bad
Joe Whitaker | 11/29 06:01 AM,
2 Comments
With the widely accepted iOS platform from Apple, the proliferation of iPads, and now the invasion of the Android tablets, we are mourning the days of true profit from dedicated home-control touchpanels. These new touchscreen-enabled devices are certainly cheaper and arguably more elegant than the current crop of touchpanels in the CE pro channel. And with inexpensive control apps, they can be just as capable. Several niche home-control developers, such as Control UI, are offering control apps for iOS, Android and Blackberry platforms, making our customers and us wonder if…
