Hulu for Windows 8: A Reason to Dump my iPad
Julie Jacobson | 10/22 02:33 PM,

I don’t use my iPad for much except for Hulu Plus, email, news and Kindle. Mostly Hulu Plus. Given that, I’m sorely tempted to join the Windows 8 camp for the new Hulu Plus app that does so much more than the inelegant app for iPad – just little things like multitasking capabilities that let you check email or browse the Web while watching a show. Most importantly, the Win 8 user interface crushes its iOS counterpart in so many ways. Your content “queue,” for example, is simpler to build…

The CE Pro Blog Mob was out in force at CEDIA Expo 2012, submitting video, images and opinions from the show floor. Here we highlight three of their videos, with more to come. One Firefly, Three Business Units One Firefly comprises three businesses, explains recently hired Seth Rubenstein during CEDIA: Firefly Design, Firefly Programming and Firefly Creative. "The three services are inextricably linked," he tells Blog Mobster Rich Fregosa. Neat-O: Creating a Dazzling Dome Display Using 4 Projectors
Lisa Montgomery | 10/10 09:41 AM,
0 Comments
From the outside, the signature dome at the Montage Beverly Hills hotel appears as a beautifully gilded architectural detail. Inside, it’s a different story. Using a unique system of projectors, lights and control, the 35-foot-wide ceiling dome displays images from abstract color patterns to swirling images of clouds to blazing sunsets. The owner, who purchased the renovated 4,500-square-foot pad on the upper floor of the 201-room hotel, “challenged us to come up with some way to really set [the dome] off,” says DSI Entertainment Systems’ Josh Christian. “He wanted a…

Robert Archer | 10/10 09:10 AM,
0 Comments
Earlier this year Apple Inc. broke its long-time rival, Microsoft's record to become the most valuable company ever. With products like the iPhone 5, new iPad and its companion iTunes service, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company should continue to be Wall Street’s benchmark for quite some time. A newly released study conducted by The NPD Group further validates Apple’s market dominance through findings that estimate the company owns nearly two-thirds of the music download market. According to the Port Washington, N.Y.-based firm, Apple owned a 64 percent share during the second…

What happens when a prized client moves or buys a house far away from your business, but wants your company to do the installation? That’s what happened to La Jolla Home Theater & Automation in La Jolla, Calif., after a star client, MLB all-star Adrian Gonzalez, was traded from the San Diego Padres to the Boston Red Sox. Gonzalez and his family purchased a new home on the opposite coast, nearly 3,000 miles away. In 2010, Gonzalez’ San Diego home had been equipped by La Jolla Home Theater & Automation…

IC Realtime is proving Apple can be friendly in security environments with several new products. At CEDIA Expo 2012, IC Realtime showed off the latest version of its software that allows end users to view surveillance camera images natively with Macintosh software, including the latest Mountain Lion version. IC Realtime's new iPhone/iPad app not only permits a homeowner or business owner to see up to 16 cameras simultaneously, but it also allows them to fully manipulate pan/tilt/zoom controls using gestures. When looking for CCTV cameras and DVRs, Andrew Nassar, West…

OmniMount Adds Lift40, iPad Mounts
Arlen Schweiger | 09/13 09:26 AM,
0 Comments
Along with its popular Play series of highly movable display mounts, OmniMount demonstrated some new products that allow for greater installation flexibility at CEDIA Expo 2012. OmniMount expects its Lift40 mount to be available by November 2012, with its focus on adjustable height for displays. The mount can hold flat panels up to 40 pounds, but with relative ease the display can be shifted, or slid really, almost 20 inches top to bottom, so installers and viewers can always have it at a good line of sight. The Lift40 also…
