I don’t use my iPad for much except for Hulu Plus, email, news and Kindle. Mostly Hulu Plus. Given that, I’m sorely tempted to join the Windows 8 camp for the new Hulu Plus app that does so much more than the inelegant app for iPad – just little things like multitasking capabilities that let you check email or browse the Web while watching a show. Most importantly, the Win 8 user interface crushes its iOS counterpart in so many ways. Your content “queue,” for example, is simpler to build… View this story

Back in the 1990s, and even in more recent times, many people used dial-up Internet services because the only thing they really needed was access to their AOL and CompuServe email accounts. Increasingly however with services such as Pandora, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video and Hulu Plus now accounting for enormous amounts of Internet traffic, home network bandwidth is as important as whatever computers populate those networks. TP-Link's new N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router is designed to backbone the high bandwidth demands that today's homeowner places on their home networks.… View this story

Hulu Plus, the increasingly popular movie and TV streaming service, has finally arrived on Apple TV. The $7.99/month service will be billed directly to the user's iTunes account. In the past, Hulu has been available on very few media streaming devices -- mostly Roku, Xbox, PS3 and Wii -- with the big gaping holes being Apple TV and Google TV. Slowly but surely, Hulu Plus is being picked up by more devices and more streaming services, including Netgear, WD and RCA media players; Denon, Marantz and Toshiba Blu-ray players; LG,… View this story

Which streaming video service offers the best quality audio? Which has the most movies with subtitles? Which has the richest parental controls? Our friend (and neighbor) Gabe Gagliano at Tech of the Hub created an incredible chart comparing these and other features of the major premium video services: Amazon Instant and Prime, Hulu Plus, iTunes, Netflix and Vudu. [continues] Click for the full chart He offers some excellent analysis to go with the chart, including these notable updates since the last update in Q3: Other notable changes since the August-September… View this story

With Hulu Plus and Netflix, I was so close to cutting the cable cord. But now Netflix has gone and raised prices by 60% -- from $9.99 per month to $15.98 per month – for unlimited streaming and one disk per month. You can have one or the other – streaming or hard disk – for $7.99 per month. Here’s how the email exchange went with my husband: Him: [forwarding notice from Netflix] Netflix raising prices Me: [expletive] What would you like to do? Just streaming? No hard disks? We… View this story
