Excusing the pun for the moment, there's a stereotype associated with home theater and consumer audio that compels many people to believe that the bigger the subwoofer the bigger a system's low frequencies will sound. Products like the PS88 subwoofer from OSD Audio can be used in many situations that require a cost effective solution that doesn't take up a lot of floor space in a home interior. The PS88 measures 10-inches by 11-inches by 10-inches and it weighs just 16 pounds to facilitate its use in a variety of… View this story

Back during the growth years of the home theater industry with surround formats like Dolby Pro Logic driving adoption it was necessary for installers to use dipole or bipolar speakers to increase the sound dispersion of the rear surround channels. It was during this time that many consumers and dealers developed an affinity for the sound attributes of these speaker technologies. The California company Current Audio is providing electronics professionals with a pair of in-ceiling speakers that let installers setup a home theater system with a choice of dipole or… View this story

Salamander Designs' newly announced additions to its Chameleon Collection provide electronics professionals with a choice of seven A/V furniture solutions that are engineered to complement the aesthetics of the modern American home. In total the company has introduced four quad cabinets and three corner cabinets, and Salamander says… View this story

Audiophiles, and now home theater enthusiasts, continue to perpetuate the myth that expensive equipment equates to high performance. Only within the past several years have audiophiles begun to understand the significance of speaker placement and room acoustics. Alan Parsons, renowned Pink Floyd and Beatles engineer, will attest to the importance of room acoustics. And organizations such as THX, the Home Acoustics Alliance (HAA), the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF), CEDIA and experts such as John Dahl, Gregg Loewen, Gerry Lemay, Joel Silver, Anthony Grimani and Joe Kane have educated a small… View this story

I often complain about how the consumer audio industry doesn’t understand how to grow sales beyond the niche audiophile market. But it appears at least one company is starting to get it. MartinLogan’s Truth in Sound Tour exposes a greater percentage of mass-market audio enthusiasts to its top-of-the-line CLX Art Electrostatic loudspeaker. During the tour, which next stops in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida April 27-28, MartinLogan demonstrates the speaker in seven Magnolia stores and 11 specialty/custom installation facilities, including LMC Home Entertainment in Scottsdale, Ariz., Goodwin’s High End in Waltham, Mass.… View this story

CineTouch has lowered the pricing on its AMX-based software to make its solutions more attractive to CE pros. Every week, millions of MTV viewers get to see BCG Concepts’ work on Rob Dyrdek’s “Fantasy Factory” show. Bryan Gorog of BCG says he got the initial job in 2009 simply because of his location in downtown Los Angeles. “When I moved to this address we actually started receiving a ton of business just based on our zip code downtown,” he admits. “We did the theater job and have been hired back for all the A/V items since. The first time we worked at the Fantasy Factory was in June… View this story
