Hitachi to Stop Making TVs

One of the more storied brands in the television business has had enough.Hitachi will stop producing TVs by September, reports Digital Spy. Digital Spy says Hitachi will cease TV production in Japan, although it will continue to sell its Wooo televisions, made by outside contractors. Hitachi has been outsourcing its TV manufacturing for several years with one active plant left in Japan that reportedly made 100,000 sets per month. Samsung, Sharp, Hitachi, Epson to Pay $553M for Price-Fixing LCDs

Samsung, Sharp, Hitachi, Epson and three other makers of LCDs have agreed to pay more than $553 million to settle price-fixing claims on TVs, notebook computers and monitors, according to Reuters. According to the article, the settlement (Case: TFT-LCD (Flat Panel) Antitrust Litigation, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, No. 07-md-01827) is based upon lawsuits that claimed the manufacturers conspired to inflate prices and stifle competition between 1999 and 2006. The agreement concludes a five-year investigation by authorities from Japan, Korea, the European Union and the United States. The…

Thailand Floods Affect Hard Drive Factories

The October/November monsoon flooding in Thailand has made a huge impact on the production of hard drive discs for computers and other IT equipment, according to Forbes. So if you are spec'ing a home network system, make sure to check on product availability and price. According to Forbes, major plants for Western Digital and Toshiba were flooded, and facilities for Seagate and Hitachi have been shut down, though not flooded themselves. Hitachi Demos ‘Brain-Machine Interface’ as TV Remote

Hitachi has developed a “brain-machine interface” that allows you to control electronic devices, including the television, by reading brain activity. According to the Associated Press, the technology “analyzes slight changes in the brain's blood flow and translates brain motion into electric signals.” In a recent demo at Hitachi’s Advance Research Lab in Hatoyama, Japan, a reporter was able to activate a toy train set using a cap on her head connected by optical fibers to a mapping device. Hitachi Names Jon Beachdell Northeast Regional Sales Manager

Mr. Beachdell brings more than 10 years of experience in video, audio and presentation products for education, corporate, security and broadcast applications.
