Pros in the custom and specialty electronics market hear it all the time from industry analysts and press members: they're leaving money on the table by not offering complete solutions. One of the ways that CE Pros and specialty retailers can offer complete solutions is to offer seating that really completes their home theater installations. Formations by Christopher Vlaun is a line created for the custom and specialty electronics markets that allows these businesses to retain the full sale capabilities of a home theater system that includes furniture. Among the… View this story

Here's a bright idea: Maybe your clients actually want to see what's going on inside that A/V cabinet. Instead of being a dank, dusty place, Salamander Designs is brightening things up with its new Salamander Lighting System. This modular LED-based illumination solution can highlight the TV, the cabinet, or just part of the cabinet. It's also designed to work with any of Salamander’s accessories, including the Furniture Mate, which is a freestanding mount for HDTVs. Aside from providing a sneak peek at what's going on inside that A/V cabinet, the… View this story

With all the hoopla out there about 3D and its ability to immerse viewers in the movie or game, it will be challenging for integrators to properly demo it. In the case of 3D and other immersive technologies, an “in-your-face” demo it is not necessarily wise. For example, I recently saw a 3D TV demo with a movie trailer for a teenie-bopper dance flick that almost sent me into an epileptic seizure. It was nothing but extremely fast edits and bright strobe lights flying at your face. Likewise, there are… View this story

Sanus BFV145 Audio Video Stand
Arlen Schweiger | 06/30 12:06 PM, 0 Comments
Sanus Systems has introduced its affordable BFV145 Audio Video Stand, the company’s first offering in its Foundations Basic Series furniture line. The BFV can be a media room’s BFF for $269. The piece can hold TVs up to 52 inches, if you need to use the top shelf as a stand. If not, you can start loading it up with electronics and/or center-channel speakers - top shelf capacity is 150 pounds. The middle and bottom shelves can support 50 and 75 pounds, respectively, according to Sanus. Even so, you may… View this story

When does a medical experiment turn into a piece of home theater furniture? When it’s BodySound, a company that makes seating with surround-sound speakers built in. The concept is the brainchild of CEO Dan Cohen, a neurologist and co-founder of Breathe Right, maker of the hugely popular Nasal Strips. A friend was experimenting with sound and vibrations in beds, and how it could lead to stress relief. When he tried out the bed, “I felt profound relaxation,” he tells CE Pro. “So many disorders are stress related. Something that induced… View this story

A really good sounding, acoustically-treated home theater with first-rate seating costs over $100,000. That’s the popular perception anyway, according to Cinema Design Group International (CDGi), which hopes to change that with its Indi Line of Theater Designs and Seating. CDGi says the line allows dealers to offer a complete home theater package — a great-sounding, great-looking home theater complete with electronics of their choice for about $20,000. The new line comes as a response to dealer and manufacturer rep feedback, according to CDGi. “The CE market is working through a… View this story

Touchstone Home Products has announced an automated TV lift for $999.99. Getting the new Elevate lift below $1,000 was a priority. “This is something that we worked toward for a long time," says CEO Jeff Sheahan. Meanwhile, the single actuator and lower weight increase the lift’s speed. It takes under 40 seconds to display versus 53 seconds with dual-actuator lifts, according to Sheahan. Sheahan adds that in order to get the Elevate under $1,000 and to minimize its weight (for cash and carry business), Touchstone uses a single actuator as… View this story

OK, so the headline is a little misleading ... the new Java Series JFV60 from Sanus Systems doesn't magically float. But it does look pretty cool sitting legless mounted to the wall, snug under a wall-mounted flat-panel TV as the company showed at CES 2010. The unit of course can be kept on a client's floor if you choose, where it would support up to 350 pounds of A/V gear. But with three wall studs required it still can carry 200 pounds of electronics heft to it when it's mounted… View this story

At least one part of a custom installer's job has become easier. Bell'O's new PR-11 and PR-12 are the latest introductions to the company's Pro Bell'O pre-assembled furniture line, and they are designed to allow CE Pros to instantly provide clients with a furniture product that complements their home decor. The two furniture pieces are designed to accommodate a variety of HDTVs and other electronics components, and they incorporate cable routing channels to enable installers to hide cabling runs. Bell'O offers the PR-12 in a brown trim with glass accents,… View this story

CEDIA Expo is not just for exploring new technologies and enlightening CE Pros. It's also a great place for doing your own virtual shopping – virtual as in, "If I had the money, I would buy …." Virtual shopping also applies to products that are not yet available, and ones that are inexpensive enough, but you couldn't be bothered to install them. After CEDIA Expo 2009, I came away with a nice shopping list for my own home -- some items I've coveted for years; others that are brand spankin'… View this story
