Bill Gates has agreed to give a keynote address at the 2010 mHealth Summit on Nov. 9 in Washington, D.C. Amulet, which makes a voice-enabled remote control for Windows Media Center, will soon make its technology available for third-party development. “We’re coming out with an SDK [software developer’s kit] to use with automation,” says president Patrick Lawless. One of the knocks that I hear from audiophile community about custom installation is that it does not focus enough on the audio. When CE Pro released its 2010 State of the Industry Report, the numbers were hard to swallow:The average custom electronics integration company experienced a 51 percent drop in revenue from residential installations in 2009.The gross median revenue of an installation company plummeted from $1.09 million in 2008 to $531,250 in 2009.The average number of installations plunged from 134 to 78 jobs.But that doesn’t mean all of these companies are giving up on the CE industry.
