SnapAV Wirepath Surveillance DVR
CE Pro Editors | 05/17 09:16 AM, 1 Comment
SnapAV has upgraded all its Wirepath Surveillance DVRs to stream live video natively to Control4. Upgraded software makes possible streaming video to display all connected cameras within the Control4 environment, including iOS apps. Other enhanced functionality includes IP control of DVR functions, including playback, and motion detection setup from Internet Explorer. According to SnapAV senior vice president Adam Levy, the software completely eliminates the need for costly and often time-consuming addition of encoders or IP cameras for surveillance integration into Control4, making SnapAV’s the first and only solution of its… View this story

Dish Network unveiled at CES 2012 the Hopper whole-house high definition DVR that allows users to record all primetime network shows (ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC) with one press of a button (the feature is called “Primetime Anytime”) and watch them on up to 4 TVs around a home. Now a new feature adds auto commercial skipping called Auto Hop. Viewers are offered the option to select Auto Hop when they schedule a recording. 2Gig, which sells more than 300,000 self-contained security panels per year, is adding a unique feature to its Go!Control systems: built-in DVR capabilities. The company demonstrated the solution during the International Security Conference (ISC West 2012) in Las Vegas. A self-contained security panel is one that includes the security processor, keypad/interface, sensor hub, back-up battery and (usually) built-in GSM module for cellular communications with the central station. Normally, all that is needed is a power source. In addition, most self-contained panels today also include home automation capabilities, with built-in Z-Wave… View this story

As an industry there aren't many products the public ranks lower cable services. For an idea of how lowly the cable industry's standing is in the public eye, it's value arguably rivals the service from the airline industry, which is at a near historically terrible level. Custom installers can't help the airlines win back the public, but it can ease some of the service issues associated with cable TV service through the use of TiVo's recently revamped product line. TiVo's newly announced TiVo Premiere DVR is the company's latest product… View this story

If you can already stream a TV show or movie online, you can now watch it offline with PlayLater software, which records content directly to your PC hard drive. The new software comes from the makers of PlayOn streaming software, which “place-shifts” your streaming content to the TV or mobile devices. PlayLater, on the other hand, “time-shifts” the content, so anything you might stream from Netflix, Hulu or any other popular service can be watched sans Internet. The company suggests you might enjoy the content “on a plane, maybe, or… View this story

TiVo is introducing an extender box that enables users to stream content from a centralized DVR to multiple TV locations. Don’t they already have such a thing? Sorta kinda. The TiVo Preview, introduced last year, enables whole-house content sharing, but it’s not a retail product. Rather, it is a tuner with CableCard support which is distributed through the cable companies and other carriers, who get to charge you for each TV set. The forthcoming IP-enabled set-top box, on the other hand, is a retail product that does not need to… View this story

Channel Vision, a manufacturer of technology for the Well-Connected Home, has announced it is providing a free DDNS service to its surveillance customers called Channel Vision Security. Channel Vision Security is a DNS service that continually tracks the IP address of the system and automatically changes with any IP address change. A connection to the security camera or DVR is never lost due to a change in IP address, whether the system is purposely reset or the internet provider makes the change. Dish Network Hopper Video Distribution System
Lisa Montgomery | 01/10 06:33 AM, 1 Comment
Dish Network CEO Joe Clayton said at CES 2012 that the company will unleash a “whole new animal” in the world of home entertainment, adding that "we are basically relaunching our company." Dish is launching a new video distribution system. The "Hopper" HD DVR serves as the hub of the network, storing up to 2 terabytes (equal to 2,000 hours of entertainment) of HD content for distribution to as many three "Joeys" (the super-small receiver boxes), which are installed in other rooms of the house. Clayton made the announcement after… View this story

TiVo will receive $215 million from AT&T after mutually settling a patent infringement lawsuit. As part of the settlement, TiVo and AT&T agreed to dismiss all pending litigation between the companies. AT&T agreed to pay TiVo an initial payment of $51 million, followed by recurring quarterly guaranteed payments through June 2018, totaling $164 million, which together yield minimum payments of $215 million. In addition to these minimum payments, AT&T will pay incremental recurring per subscriber monthly license fees through July 2018 should AT&T's DVR subscriber base exceed certain levels.
