Kaleidescape is finally delivering downloaded content to its pricey movie servers, thanks to a new online store populated with titles from Warner Brothers Digital Distribution (WBDD). Warner is Kaleidescape’s first licensing partner, but the plan is to attract many others. When it launches today at store.kaleidescape.com, the new service will offer roughly 2,000 feature films and TV episodes, adding about 500 new titles per week until all 3,000 Warner flicks are loaded. More TV episodes – of which more than 8,000 currently are available—will follow. In addition to media downloaded… View this story

The DVD CCA vs. Kaleidescape saga continues, with a judge recently extending the stay of an injunction that would have required the manufacturer to cease development of its DVD movie servers until all appeals are exhausted. The injunction was ordered in March of this year, after the DVD CCA (Copy Control Association) won the latest battle in its lawsuit against Kaleidescape. The DVD CCA, which licenses the Content Scramble System (CSS) copy-protection scheme for DVD players, enjoined Kaleidescape from selling its flagship DVD movie servers because they do not require… View this story

In the latest twist in the never-ending legal battle between Kaleidescape and the DVD CCA, Kaleidescape CEO Michael Malcolm tells CE Pro that the California 6th District Court of Appeal has granted a temporary stay of the injunction handed down by Judge William J. Monahan earlier in March 2012. This means the injunction that would have forced Kaleidescape to stop selling its DVD movie servers will not come into effect on April 8, 2012 as previously ordered, according to Malcolm. "The injunction will not come into effect while the Court… View this story

The DVD CCA (Copy Control Association) racked up another win against Kaleidescape, developer of high-end servers for DVDs, Blu-rays and CDs. The company is enjoined from selling its DVD movie servers as of April 8, 2012. Judge William J. Monahan denied Kaleidescape’s request for a stay of an injunction order issued this month. The injunction was issued after seven years of legal battles between Kaleidescape and the organization that licenses the Content Scramble System (CSS) for copy-protecting DVDs. Kaleidescape CEO Michael Malcolm seemed confident that the judgment against the company… View this story

Bloggers, pundits, digital rights fanatics and enthusiasts have all chimed in on the recent injunction order against Kaleidescape in its seven-year legal battle with the DVD CCA (Copy Control Association). A Santa Clara, Calif., judge issued the injunction against Kaleidescape’s DVD movie servers, but Kaleidescape has appealed the decision and believes the injunction will be stayed pending the outcome of that appeal. So what about the people with the most skin in the game: Kaleidescape dealers and the larger community of custom electronics integrators? In a flash survey of dealers… View this story

Kaleidescape CEO Michael Malcolm sent a memo to dealers today, saying that they will not be party to an injunction against the sale of Kaleidescape's DVD movie servers. He reiterates that the company believes the injunction, requested by the DVD CCA and issued recently by the Santa Clara County court in California, will be stayed pending the outcome of an appeal. The appeal could take up to two years, Malcolm says. RELATED: Take That, DVD CCA: 12 Ways to Rip DVDs Kaleidescape is working furiously to gather more intelligence on… View this story

Kaleidescape, maker of one of the most expensive DVD movie servers on the planet, has lost its legal battle with the DVD CCA, licensor of the Content Scramble System (CSS) required of all (legitimate) DVD players. The Santa Clary County court found that Kaleidescape breached its CSS licensing agreement with the DVD CCA and punished the manufacturer with a severe injunction that prohibits the sale of its DVD servers, and the support of servers already in the field (although Kaleidescape CEO Michael Malcolm says the ban on tech-support is limited… View this story

Most integrators (69%) are “not really” worried about their legal liability when it comes to movie servers, according to preliminary results of a brief survey issued this morning by CE Pro. The survey is meant to gauge dealer reaction to the recent injunction order issued against Kaleidescape in its legal battle with the DVD CCA. The permanent injunction prohibits the sale and certain support of Kaleidescape movie servers that enable DVD copying, i.e., that employ the Content Scramble System (CSS) licensed by the DVD CCA. The DVD CCA sued Kaleidescape… View this story

Kaleidescape CEO Michael Malcolm and his team was “pretty shocked” by the injunction order just issued against the company in its seven-year-old lawsuit with the DVD Copy Control Association (DVD CCA). Judge William J. Monahan of the Superior Court of California, Santa Clara, published the injunction last week. The DVD CCA, which licenses the Content Scramble System (CSS) copy-protection scheme for DVD players, has enjoined Kaleidescape from selling its flagship DVD movie servers because they do not require a physical disc to be present at playback – a requirement of… View this story
