Many people purchase a home hoping to net a profit. It looks like the New York Mets' David Wright is no different. The third baseman recently put his 4,100 sq ft. penthouse on the market for $7.85 million. Wright purchased the full-floor living quarters in 2006 for $6.1 million. Upgrades to the 3-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom dwelling, including a hot tub and state-of-the-art sound system on the top floor, are some of the improvements that could yield a high offer. He's also outfitted the media room with five TVs so no game…

Count Remote Technologies Inc. (RTI) among the automation companies looking to broaden its image. Once thought of as a pure residential control manufacturer -- perhaps with a twist of commercial application -- it has really embraced commercial during 2010 and is going to market as a residential and commercial company. I've been doing this for 15 years.
And for all of those years uninspired marketers have touted their products as "the future … today."
When it comes to consumer electronics, when are we in the future?
By some parameters, I'd say we're there.
By others, not so much.
Here we rate the technologies and their "future factor," including 3D TV, digital content, voice control, gesture control and more.
The maximum rating is 5, while the lowest rating is 0.
Click here for Grading Future Technologies.

Tom LeBlanc | 11/19 06:33 AM,

Most people got their first glimpse of the new Cowboys Stadium — the largest domed stadium in the world — during the regular season home opener between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants. The Crestron control system programmers, however, got a sneak peek. Grapevine, Texas-based PanTech Design was charged with developing, installing and programming the Crestron system and control panel that operates five unmanned broadcast Canon BU-45H HD cameras strategically placed throughout the stadium. One is underneath the stadium’s gigantic scoreboard for aerial shots. Two are located “at the…

Every integrator wants a big six-figure job … until he is mired in the middle of it. Then, he can probably be heard muttering under his breath, “Why did I take this seemingly endless job?!” Robert F. Romano, president of Integrated Home Solutions (IHS) in Branchburg, N.J., is one integrator not afraid of these mammoth homes. Indeed, he recently completed a 16,000-square-footer and is in the midst of another. A popular gripe in the custom electronics industry is that architects, builders and interior designers don’t appreciate the need to include electronics in their designs. A gripe in the building and design communities is that guidelines for including electronics aren’t communicated properly. The Council of Home Automation and Residential Technology (CHART) was formed by architects, builders, designers and CE pros to fix all that. CHART’s resources will be available online when its Web site launches in December. The organization aims to provide a forum for communication and guidelines for the…
