U.S. Senate to Vote on Internet Sales Tax

The U.S. Senate conducted a key vote last night that could put a dent in “showrooming” in specialty retail stores. The U.S. Senate voted 74-20 to bring to the floor The Marketplace Fairness Act, S. 743, that will require online-only retailers to remit state sales taxes. Similar legislation is pending in the U.S. House of Representatives. [Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly indicated that the Senate had passed the legislation.] The Marketplace Fairness Act, S. 743, would provide states with the authority—if they choose—to obligate large online-only…

Peerless-AV has diversified its business portfolio in recent years, broadening its offerings after originally being a premier manufacturer of TV mounts. Now the company is taking another step in that direction by announcing the launch of a new division that will focus on emerging solutions for the delivery of digital content for the commercial and residential markets. This new division will expand the company’s existing technology portfolio, including wireless connectivity, wireless broadcast, kiosk, digital audio and touch products, to provide a comprehensive catalog of digital content delivery tools for AV…

Best Products of CES 2012
Robert Archer | 01/19 10:52 AM,

CES 2012 drew a record-setting 153,000 attendees in more than 1.8 million square feet of exhibit space inside the Las Vegas Convention Center. Clearly, it's a popular show. But CES is not high on my lists of favorite trade shows because of the many logistical obstacles the event presents for members of the press in a three- or four-day stretch. I was happy to see some very exciting products from an optimistic group of exhibitors. And If their optimism is an indication of how the electronics industry will fare in…

CES Dubious Achievement Awards: Smartest, Dumbest, Most Surprising
Julie Jacobson | 01/18 08:39 AM,

The best Ultrabooks, coolest phones, smartest TVs and most necessary accessories of CES 2012 have all received their due. But wait, there's more. Sometimes we get so caught up in the traditionally earth-shattering innovations at CES, we forget the little things - like the smallest CEA lounge ever, the best technology for Apple (if only they'd adopt it), the worst booth babe and other dubious achievements. Here we round up some of the more peculiar products and pitches, as well as some of the more pleasant surprises. Click here to…

7 Weirdest Products at CES
Richard Fregosa | 01/16 10:44 AM,

While CES always promises to be a tradeshow featuring some of the latest innovations, there are a couple of things you can always expect to see while at the show in Las Vegas. CES is never without two things, for example, the adult expo area and the "weird stuff." AVN and CES parted ways this year, so there will be no photos or commentary on the more "revealing" side of the show. I'll have to settle for showing you some of the items that left me scratching my head and…

The winners of the 2012 CES Best of Innovations Design and Engineering Awards were announced back in Nov. 2011. We are re-posting the winners for those who did not see them in action at CES or missed the original announcement. It's hard to believe, but the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is right around the corner. And we just got our first tease for the upcoming event, which runs from January 10-13, 2012 in Las Vegas. The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has revealed its 2012 International CES Best of Innovations…

Too much to see. Too little time. That pretty much sums up the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. CES 2012 was no different. With an onslaught of 3D TVs and smart TVs, the show floor was packed with new gadgets and tons of people - potentially a new attendee record. We've rounded up some cool products, some wacky products and the lighter side of CES 2012. Find out what the show floor had in store. Click here for CES 2012: Photos from Show Floor. If you attended…

High-Performance Audio Tour at CES 2012
Richard Fregosa | 01/11 09:11 AM,

As a guest blogger for CE Pro, I arrived in Las Vegas for CES with two priorities in mind: 1. Get my press badge 2. Make it to the Venetian as fast as possible listen to some music systems. Last year, the venue was full of manufacturers who took over several floors and outfitted suites with awesome demonstrations, so I knew it was a must-see. After proving I was a legitimate press person by showing the registration person my "5 Trends to Watch at CES 2012" on my iPhone, I…

The International Consumers Electronics Show (CES) is the largest electronics trade show in the world. As if you didn't know, it's taking place now in Las Vegas. Some have called it the Super Bowl of electronics, a time where all the newest gadgets are on display. It's also a great networking event for those who work in the electronics industry. CES attendees know how quickly schedules fill up. You need to ensure you have enough time to meet with clients, attend press conferences and test out the latest gizmos. CES,…

5 Trends to Watch at CES 2012
Richard Fregosa | 01/09 10:27 AM,

Vegas baby! CES 2012 has begun. This marks a very different CES for me in my on-again, off-again tempestuous relationship with CES of close to 20 years as an attendee. This year I'm attending as a guest blogger, so stay tuned for continuing updates throughout the show. Seeing as CES 2012 is the halftime ceremony between CEDIA Expo 2011 and CEDIA Expo 2012, I've rounded up five integrator-specific technologies I'll be keeping my eye on during CES 2012. Click here for 5 Trends to Watch at CES 2012. If you're…
