Mario Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, recently signed a $100-million deal with the Buffalo Bills, making it easy for the star defensive end to go all out when designing his home theater. Raleigh, N.C.-based Audio Advice had the luxury of incorporating the equipment into a partially finished space in the basement of Williams’ 11,000-square-foot Raleigh home. The drywall was already up in the room that would serve as the home theater, but areas behind those walls were unfinished. These open spaces allowed Audio Advice… View this story

Most people love an inside look at the lifestyle of celebrities. And in the custom electronics world, some integrators get a behind-the-scenes look by landing big jobs with celebrity clients. The following installs are examples of celebrity installs that went smooth. We have rounded up the best celebrity installs we covered in 2011. Update: Crestron says the installation Think Simple completed was in Sir Richard Branson's nearby private house on Necker Island, which did not burn down in the August 2011 fire caused by a lightning strike. The building that burned down was part of the main house. We apologize for the confusion. With its beautiful beaches and 74-acres of private property, Necker Island in the Caribbean would be considered to be paradise by many, including Sir Richard Branson. Branson, owner of Virgin Atlantic Airlines, Virgin Records and 400 other companies, decked out… View this story

Simon Cowell X Factor Trailer
Rachel Cericola | 11/04 05:39 AM, 0 Comments
If you were amazed by Ashton Kutcher's automated trailer that features seven 3D plasma TVs, 360-degree, 24/7 security and costs $8,750 per week, you'll want to feast your eyes on this puppy from Simon Cowell. The "American Idol" and "The X Factor" creator gave the The Hollywood Reporter an exclusive look inside his trailer on the set of "The X Factor", and it features more technology than most homes we’ve seen. While it's not quite as big or impressive as Kutcher's super trailer, Cowell's 1,100-square-foot, 40-ton, two-story "mobile office" will… View this story

Former Friends star Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing) is getting rid of multiple homes, and each one features electronics sure to make Joey Tribbiani jealous. Perry recently purchased a home in the Hollywood Hills for $8.65 million. Located above the Sunset Strip, the 4,000-square-foot house has ocean views, four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. AOL says it even has a $27,000 garage door. But our favorite part is the home theater, which has seating for nine. When the screen is retracted and the curtains are opened, guests even get a gorgeous glimpse… View this story

Kurt Russell's Malibu Beach House
Rachel Cericola | 10/17 10:33 AM, 1 Comment
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell just listed their Malibu beach house for a cool $14.7 million, and it includes quite a few high-tech amenities. The Hollywood duo doesn’t have a full-blown home theater, but this media room should suffice. Besides a projector and big screen, HomeSeekers says the media room also includes Crestron control. If you take a peek around the rest of the property, you’ll see that this home also has its share of flat screens. There’s one in the bathroom, one above the stove in the kitchen, and… View this story

It’s common when starting a business to have visions of grandeur. All too often, eager entrepreneurs dive into their new endeavors expecting a rush of clientele to stampede their storefronts. In the custom electronics installation industry, these visions of greatness typically include working in huge, custom-built houses; installing elaborate, bells-and-whistles systems; and catering to customers who willingly give them carte blanche on the project. In reality, it usually takes years to achieve this sort of business nirvana. To expect it to happen overnight is a big, fat pipe dream. Even… View this story

Entourage may be winding down as the hit HBO series recently kicked off its final season, but things are just starting to heat up, technology-wise, at the home of star Kevin Connolly. Hollywood Hi-Tech, a new program on the DIY Network, recently helped Connolly, better known as "E" to Entourage fans, transform his bachelor pad-style bar area into a home theater. Ari Gold, Drama, Turtle and Vinny Chase won't have a problem screening a movie or two on Connolly's 110-inch Stewart Filmscreen StudioTek Screen. Connolly's theater also features Lutron blackout… View this story

Brad Sundberg, owner of BSUN Media Systems, has, like many integrators, worked with celebrity clients. And Sundberg is not exaggerating when he says he has "worked with Hollywood’s elite for more than twenty years." He's worked with some real A-listers, including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Will Smith and Tom Cruise, to name a few. He also had the chance to work with the late Elizabeth Taylor, who he met while working for Michael Jackson at Neverland Ranch. Sundberg wrote about his experiences with Taylor in the March 29, 2011 edition of… View this story
