The Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) has announced the 2012 spring dates and locations for its one-day Crash Course - Video Calibration Seminars - A Full Day Labs and Hands-on Activities. THX Media Director

A couple of years ago, THX previewed a prototype called Blackbird, which was designed to allow filmmakers to embed metadata in their digital files, that can be read by electronics, to enhance the consumer experience in the home. Today, THX calls the technology Media Director, and it was on display at NAB 2011 in San Francisco. The metadata-based Media Director technology will be available on Rovi's Scenarist and CineVision production and encoding tools. JVC Professional will host a THX Professional Video Systems Calibration Certification Workshop Dec. 7-9, 2010 at its facility in Cypress, Calif. The three-day workshop includes two days of hands-on calibrating exercises, where attendees will work with professional calibration equipment on more than a dozen different displays, including LCD and plasma panels, D-ILA, DLP and LCD projectors, video processors, and a variety of Blu-ray and DVD players. Many enthusiasts and electronics professionals consider Disney the benchmark of quality for home video products. Now the media conglomerate is looking to ensure consumers get the optimal home video experience. At CEDIA Expo 2010, Disney debuted its World of Wonder (WOW) Calibration Disc, a step-by-step visual guide (pdf) to calibrating and optimizing an entertainment system.
