Olive Media's Melody No. 2 Player ($600) can be added to augment the functionality of the company's Opus No. 4 Server ($1,500 to $1,800). Olive Media has been in the media server business since 2005. Unlike many companies that try to be all things to everyone, it has taken a stripped-down approach. A look at Olive Media's current product line shows it's succinct, with only two: The Opus No. 4 Hi-Fi Digital Stereo media server and the Melody No. 2 Hi-Fi Multimedia Player. Features The Opus server is available with…

Audio manufacturer Linn Products Limited will cease production of CD players on Jan. 1, 2010. Linn says it's exiting the CD player market because of the emergence of the networked home and growing consumer demand for streaming media. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) says sales of downloadable music have increased nearly 30 percent from 2007 to 2008. CD sales have declined approximately 25 percent during that same period. Linn's record label also has seen a substantial increase in downloadable sales. Linn says it will continue to produce and…

5 Rockin’ Bass Guitar Demos

Chris Brunhaver | 08/08 08:13 AM,
0 Comments
Bass guitar players, in most forms of music, lay the foundation for a song by playing supporting, groove-oriented patterns. There are, however, a number of songs where the bass is a primary melodic and harmonic contributor. These songs are not only fun to listen to, they can be great tools for setting up a stereo or home theater and assessing its performance. The frequency spectrum covers the low bass up through the midrange, making it a great way to assess subwoofer level and integration, as well as room resonances or…

Jamiesons Audio/Video: A Multiroom Music Windfall
Erin Harrington | 08/06 05:56 AM,

Most Custom installers think wireless systems aren't all that ... well, custom. Toledo, Ohio-based Jamiesons Audio/Video disagrees. Co-owners David Jamieson and Ric Clark don't shy away from wireless multiroom audio. They're embracing it — and so are scads of customers. Unlike many integrators, Jamieson says the wireless multiroom music system from Sonos makes a lot of sense. Tom LeBlanc | 07/22 06:23 AM,

News flash: The way to rise above the recession is to develop products people love. Most people don’t love audio anymore. They just love the portability and how easy it is to get content. Just ask Apple, which is calling its fiscal third quarter its best non-holiday quarter ever. Apple reports revenue of $8.34 billion and a net quarterly profit of $1.23 billion. The gross margin was 36.3 percent, up from 34.8 percent in 2008 Q3. iPhones drove the success. Apple sold 5.2 million iPhones, representing 626 percent unit growth…

Some guitar players have been lucky enough to capture their Holy Grail of sound and it will live on forever. We've rounded up six landmark guitar recordings that can be valuable sales tools during system demos. We'll explain why these recordings are unique and why you might find yourself spontaneously breaking out the air guitar during your presentation. Click…
