01/14 11:59 AM – (Editor’s note: During CEDIA Expo 2014, CE Pro contributor and CEDIA board member Joe Whitaker shared his quest to cut the cord by finding the perfect combination of OTA, web, DVR functionality and more. He came close with Nuvyyo’s Tablo TV, with $219/$289 dual/quad tuner models and fee-based programming guide subscription options. Then, at 2015 International CES, CES 2015, Whitaker discovered the DVR+ from the pioneer: Channel Master. Just when I thought I had made up my mind on how… Read more...

01/09 12:43 PM – TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO) used the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to debut its new TiVo OnePass service that offers users the ability to track and record every episode of a show regardless of the source (live, recorded TV, VOD or streaming) … ideal for binge-watching. OnePass is available on all TiVo units, including the Roamio Pro unit targeted at the custom installation channel, and presumably will be in the still-to-come Mega, the monster-sized DVR device announced last fall… Read more...

10/29 10:20 AM – Editor’s note: Consumers continue to cut the cord and HD antenna sales are off the charts. So how does an integrator help customers make the best of the broadcast stations available over the air? Tablo TV from Nuvyyo—an over-the-air multi-tuner with networked DVR capabilities— may be the best thing going right now, in terms of features and pricing. The device ($219 for the dual-tuner model, $289 for quad) doesn’t use HDMI for content distribution. Instead, it goes all IP over… Read more...

09/11 02:55 PM – Richard Fregosa is part of CE Pro’s Blog Mob at CEDIA Expo 2014. Press duties continued with one of my favorite events of CEDIA, the “Media Preview.” This is a more relaxed setting where vendors set up either static or active displays and demos and have the opportunity to chat before the noise and bustle of the show floor can be distracting. Several exhibitors from this year’s “Rookie Row” were getting their first opportunities to tell their story. Steinway Lyngdorf:… Read more...

09/10 10:06 AM – TiVo (NASDAQ: TIVO) has just taken the DVR to a completely other level. The new TiVo Mega being unveiled at CEDIA Expo 2014, is labeled as “So BIG, It’s Almost Inappropriate” and “We’ve Created a Monster… on Purpose” in taglines by the company. And those sound about right. The whole-home-capable TiVo Mega has 24 terabytes (TB) capacity to hold 26,000 hours of SD programming and 4,000 hours of HD content. That’s compared to 4TB for its Roamio Pro, its current… Read more...

03/05 10:08 AM – TiVo (Nasdaq: TIVO) may seem like the ultimate DIY solution, but the company says the custom integration channel plays an increasingly important role in delivering to its DVR products to consumerse. In TiVo’s annual report for fiscal year ended January 31, 2014, the company reports record revenues, net income and adjusted AEBITDA for service and technology. While CEO Tom Rogers attributes much of the success to “new deals with major service providers across the globe,” he seems to pin a… Read more...

01/09 03:02 PM – TiVo is one of the few TV viewing and recording services that actually provides good opportunities for integrators. The DVR company announced at CES 2014 two-way integration with Control4, with plans to add other home control partners in the future, says Paul Malmquist director of sales for TiVo. Even without the integration, TiVo makes a fine platform for installers, notes Malmquist: “It is a wired solution, and that is something the dealer base does very well.” If you haven’t looked… Read more...

09/23 12:00 PM – Distributor Capitol will showcase Ultra HD TVs along with Panasonic SIP phones in booth 2330 at CEDIA Expo 2013, while also offering a menu of classes covering sales and installation tips to help maximize growth and profitability. In addition to these SIP phones, Capitol will also showcase Panasonic’s VIERA 50- to 65-inch ST60 full HD plasma TVs. TiVo Roamio
08/20 11:23 AM – Sorry network executives, but TV watchers are becoming increasingly dependent on the DVR. One of the companies that’s embracing this is TiVo, of course. TiVo has unleashed Roamio, a new line of DVRs designed to be a “Roku, Apple TV, Slingbox, Google TV, your standard cable box - all rolled into one.” The TiVo Roamio DVR Series includes three models. Depending on needs, users can have anywhere from four to six TV tuners, with storage ranging from 75 to 450… Read more...

05/16 07:46 AM – The N.Y.-based manufacturer Vidabox has been busy over the course of this past spring and winter updating and redesigning its line of media servers. On the heels of its most recent product updates the company has announced another new server product: the LiivNAS: Dune Edition.
