CookStop Remote Stove Control

Old people and college students are most at risk for cooking-related fires, but even the most diligent chefs can get side-tracked by a phone call or a nap.

The CookStop (starts at about $300 retail) can virtually eliminate cooking-related fires. The device sits between a stove and a safety switch, turning off the fire hazard based on parameters set by the chef or caretaker.

The system can be set for use during certain times or days, or for specific durations—in which case the user must push a button to cook longer than the set time.

A built-in motion detector within CookStop can monitor movement in the kitchen and automatically turn off the stove if the user leaves the room and does not return within a specific timeframe.

It can be integrated with select professionally monitored PERS systems.

Designed for management in mind, the CookStop can be keyed for each resident, which may have different rules for cooking.

Might work OK for electric stoves/ovens but what about gas stoves/ovens, especially those with standing pilots?  If you cut off the gas to the unit then the pilot lights would also go out.

Might work well with electric stoves/ovens but what about gas stoves/ovens especially those with standing pilots?  And what if the stove has one of those fancy digital clocks that takes a rocket scientist to reset?

The gas stove can be manipulated with a relay and a gas valve. Will be expensive to put together. having the pilot light and the clock go out is the least of your problems compared to a fire.

CookStop should not interfere with those “fancy digital clocks”.  There is a small switch on the power unit that is meant to shift the 110V leg to accommodate the clock.  If, during installation, the clock does not work, just move the switch to the opposite position and the clock should work fine.
