image At one time the naysayers said the category of web tablets would never take off and be a relevant part of the computing/consumer electronics markets. Thanks to the success however of Apple's iOS platform, as well as the Android operating system, tablets may well be the future of computing as consumers seek out smaller, portable devices that are convenient to their busy lifestyles.

Sony's new Tablet S and Tablet P tablets are engineered to meet specific usage applications of busy consumers. The Tablet S is designed for multimedia activities and it includes a 9.4-inch touchscreen, along with a NVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile processor and it runs on the Android 3.1 operating system (OS). The Tablet P is designed for mobile usage and like the Tablet S, it uses the NVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile processor and Android 3.1 OS platform. Sony says the Tablet P differs from the Tablet S in that it employs a smaller 5.5-inch screen and it was .083 pounds, whereas the Tablet S weighs 1.33 pounds.

Both also include Wi-Fi connectivity and mobile 4G access exclusively through AT&T's mobile broadband network.

image PC gamers are much different than typical computing consumers and companies that have recognized this have done well catering to the gaming crowd.

One such maker is the California-based company Razer. The company's new Blade laptop gaming PC is engineered to appeal to the performance requirements of the gaming crowd, as well as that market's aesthetic requirements. The Blade utilizes a full aluminum chassis that measures just .88 inches thick and this slim profile helps contribute to its overall 6.97 pound weight. Developed in tandem with Intel the computer features an Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce graphics processor to support a variety of gaming activities.

Other features incorporated into the PC include the company's Switchblade user interface, which offers 10 dynamic tactile keys for in-game use, and a 17-inch screen with two operating modes to help optimize the user experience. In addition, the PC offers 8GBs of RAMM, a built-in Web cam, a 320GB SATA HDD and wireless 802.11n Wi-Fi.

image Optoma is one of a handful of projector companies that have embraced the gaming category. Adding to its gaming oriented line of products the company recently added its fourth GameTime product to its series of multipurpose projectors.

The newly launched GT750 projector is the company's latest product and Optoma says the projector is compatible with all the industry's current gaming formats and standards, including 3D. Optoma says the Texas Instruments' DLP-based projector offers users a native 1280 x 720 HD resolution and it incorporates HDMI 1.4a inputs to accommodate 3D sources such as Blu-ray.

Optoma adds the projector is rated to produce as many as 2,500 Lumens, and in a business or computer-based environment, the GT750 can reproduce graphics from Apple and PC computers.

image Whether the music and audio communities want to admit it or not, the rapid rise of music-based games has ignited the interest of young people who are now discovering new and classic music.

Taking the combination of music and gaming to the next level is Zivix LLC's Jam Party Remixed PC music game. The game works with Peavey Electronics ' HeroMaker digital guitar, which can also be used with USB supported Rock Band and Guitar Hero guitar controllers.

With the new JamParty Remixed game PC users can become instant producers, mixers and lead guitar players. Zivix says that users can use the game to transform their proficiency of music-based games to create music using JamParty Remixed's library of chords, beats, vocals and soundscapes, and once a newly created song is finished these songs can be uploaded to social network sites and transferred to portable music players.

Zivix adds the game is engineered for everyone from beginners to advanced music gamers, and the game offers music fans of all genres, including Rock, Alternative, Pop, and Techno the opportunity to play along to exclusive tracks and loops.

image Currently there's a lot of talk of cloud computing and rumors of a super Apple iTunes platform that could eventually let consumers access their entire iTunes library from anyway.

Until those rumors turn into actual products however the need for storage is still important for anyone that owns a computer.

Data Robotics, Inc.'s Drobo line of data storage products features five series of components that can be used for everything from movie and music file storage in a residential home network, to critical data backup in a commercial business LAN.

Using the BeyondRaid storage technology that is said to protect data from hard drive crashes, the basic Drobo holds as many as four hard drives, and it can be expanded at any time to supports multiple terabytes of storage.

The unit can be used for Apple-, Linux- and Windows-based computers, and installers can use either FireWire 800 or USB to connect to a computer.

image Over the past several years the power conditioning/power protection category has expanded its consumer presence through its ability to develop products that offer filtration, protection and aesthetic value.

Panamax's new MD2 line of products is a good example of products that encompass these values. The line includes five products with MSRPs that range from $40 to $70 and all of the products offer a compact size of 3.25 inches by 5.25 inches.

Other features of the products include two side-mounted AC outlets, removable covers that can be painted to match the color of any room decor, EMI/RF filter circuitry, LED indicator lights that shows on/off, line-fault, wiring integrity and protection status.

image Peavey Electronics is well known in the music community with artists as diverse as Joe Satriani, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Zac Brown Band using its products.

The Meridian, Miss.-based manufacturer's latest product is not a standard amplifier or guitar, it's the result of a collaboration with the software company Zivix that's produced the HeroMaker guitar/game controller and JamParty software.

The guitar/gaming solution is debuting at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) next week and it allows gamers that have developed skills playing music games like "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" to create their own music with their USB-based gaming controllers, computer keyboards, mouse or the HeroMaker guitar.

Peavey says the software incorporates a library of chords, beats, vocals and other audio loops that can be used to help create music. CE Pros interested in learning more about Peavey, the company also offers products in the church sound, pro audio categories that include speakers, mixing boards, microphones and other accessories.

image Apple TV has always been viewed as a niche product for do-it-yourselfer (DIY'er) A/V enthusiasts, computer geeks and custom installers.

Now as rumors swirl about a new cloud-based Apple TV product announcement from the Cupertino, Calif. electronics company, specialty electronics manufacturers like Autonomic Controls are producing Apple enhancement products that enable installers to integrate Apple products into their system solutions.

Autonomic Controls' new Apple TV module for Crestron is SystemBuilder compatible, which the company says increases installers' ability to utilize Apple TV in their Crestron-based home control, home theater and whole-house A/V designs.

The module also enables installers to implement multiple Apple TV units running PC and Mac versions of iTunes, and it also recognizes Apple AirTunes via Ethernet to facilitate multi-zone control and media browsing from any touchpanel in the system.

image A few months back, Apple introduced the latest additions to its popular iMac computer product line.

The four new products include two 21.5 inch-screen models and two 27-inch screen models and they powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processors. The base 21.5-inch model is fitted with 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM that's expandable to 16GB, a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics, a 500GB Serial ATA hard drive, a slot-load 8x SuperDrive that records and plays DVDs, and 802.11n networking capabilities.

The top-of-the-line 27-inch model builds upon the base unit's features with amenities such as a 2.66 GHz Core i5 processor, a 1TB Serial ATA hard drive, and a ATI Radeon HD 4850 discrete graphics card with 512MB GDDR3 RAM.
