Seeking to replace old Adcom House IR system. Like to install a keypad system yet existing wire is twisted pair with a shield. Any keypad products that use twisted pair rather than cat5e?

You would need to provide more detail on the wire you have.  Cat5e is twisted pair.  See if you can see enough of the wire to read the type from the print on the jacket.

Twisted pair is a term I have used for years before Cat 5 was the norm. Basically 4) 20 awg conductors plus a separate sheild. (bare wire). Suitable for IR transmission. The Adcom system has a preamp that was controled by in-wall IR receivers located throught out the house in a typical single gang. plate. The Adcom no longer functions and client requests a volume control or keypad.
Just no Cat 5 in exisiting system.

Cresnet will *probably* work on that. What are the distances?

Everything is going ethernet - probably the CresNet path is your best bet.  Depending on the building - you may be able to justify pulling Cat5e and open up your options for product if they have any apprehensions or if you are not able to provide Crestron.

Thanks dor your input. Though pulling new wire is not in the plan.
Anyway Sonance has a keypad system that can use 3 or 4 18-22awg conductors.

@highfiguy

Here is another that will do everything over your 4 conductor speaker wire, that is if you just need some audio control.

We just did an upgrade/replacement on a job that haad an old Niles RVL-6 system

We used the Niles ISC system, each KP location only had a 1pr sheilded wire and pulling wire wasnt an option.

We added a RFG (niles RF gateway) behind each new inwall touchscreen and powered them at the head end. The RFG has a wired ethernet out that feeds the new KP.  worked out well for us in this application

we installed the full touchscreen contact keypads in all locations, 4 inwalls and 2 tabletop units One table top was able to receive a new cat 5
