We are considering going back to AMX primarily for light commercial and conference room solutions. I personally got away from AMX years ago. Great product don’t get me wrong, but as each product has it’s place in the industry they no longer fit my niche at one point. But as the market changes so do our niche’s and thus our products. We will see in the future if i myself am singing AMX praises again.

Hey Joe, could you elaborate on why you’re considering going back to AMX for commercial jobs? Why do you prefer AMX in the situations you mentioned?

Not to bash on AMX at all, but when you look at there products the first thing that comes to mind is the industrial look. Their equipment just fits that environment. After that is functionality. Sure i can make any system a solution for a boardroom, but AMX actually has solutions that are made specifically for boardroom and business environments. I could go into a lot of detail on this as it has been bouncing around our offices for some time. It all boils cost, design, functionality, look/feel, and finally purpose. A solution that was designed with a purpose in mind will be more profitable and less costly to the client over designing/programming a system that was not designed with that same purpose in mind.

AMX and Cinetouch have been my bread and butter (more like filet mignon and wine) for the last several years.  I think their new panels look great and the Cinetouch software that I use for programming is extremely powerful and feature rich.  With AMX and Cinetouch together, my systems easily do things that would wow a seasoned Creston programmer.

nms08, i’m sure everyone would love to see pictures and read more about specific things you’ve done with AMX and Cinetouch, if you care to elaborate.

In short, Cinetouch provides a platform which allows integrators to “program” their AMX systems quickly without the need for a dedicated in house or outsourced programmer.  Also, and a key point, once a system is configured, most of the changes of how that systems works for specific users can be made right from the touch panel giving the end user instant service and gratification.

As for my experience, my first AMX/Cinetouch project was 32 zones of audio, 17 Zones of distributed video, and 24 touch panels and was EH “Home of the Month”.  My current project, a very difficult retro fit (extremely under wired house with faux pained walls and murals) is 32 zones of audio, 15 zones of distributed video, and 26 touchpanels (4 of which are ipads, 2 iphones) with full integration of lighting, HVAC, Security, Door intercoms and cameras, and security cameras.  Plus a Runco D73-d 3d Theater.  AMX/Cinetouch easily handles these sized projects.  While the programming for these projects might take a couple of days, my smaller projects (6-18 zones for example) can be programmed in hours.  As an example, a recent upgrade for a client from Elan home Systems to AMX was about 12 zones, and 8 touch panels and was programmed and up and running in about 3 hours.
