Given Sony’s market decision to sell Google TV through retail only, I thought couples counseling may be in order. . .
Counselor:
What brings you here today?
He Said:
I’m disappointed. She just doesn’t treat me like she used to. I used to get special product lines and dealer discounts. She used to make me feel important and give me special attention. She asked questions, listened to me, and even tried to make me happy by giving me Rack Systems or a chance to HomeShare. Sure we had our rocky moments, when I felt she was using me to promote products that were overpriced, but all in all, I thought things were going well. And then she went and did this!
She Said:
He never supports me. I try and try to change to please him, but my audio quality is never quite as good as his last, or my speakers aren’t good enough, or my Racks are too expensive, or HomeShare only does 720p/1080i. Sure he uses me for video, and puts my logo all over to attract customers, but I need more. I’ve tried to change to give him what he wants, but I just can’t do it anymore. I love market share and brand image, and he just isn’t fulfilling my needs.
Counselor:
It sounds like you two are going separate ways. You are really not made for each other.
Sony you are already married to Retail. Go back home and beg for forgiveness. Accept that you will not have the prestige of some other brands in the high end AV world, but that you will own tons of marketshare in the mass market and people will always recognize you when you walk down the street.
Custom Install start selling quality and expertise again. Go back to when you were happy, before you used the crutch of brand recognition to attract customers. You were a bad fit anyway. She doesn’t offer what you need right now and you can’t change her into something she’s not. It’s over man, let her go.
