I was running the scoreboard at my high school soccer game this evening and it got me thinking.  Does anyone or has anyone thought about installing things like stadium scoreboards, lights, or speaker systems? 

It seems to me that neither would be very complicated.  The lighting side of things is probably a little more on the electrical side but with today’s new scoreboards it’s mostly all computerized. 

Also, you could install similar items in gymnasiums for basketball, volleyball, etc.  Every middle and high school needs something like this implemented.

Does anyone have experience?

I’ll respond, although I haven’t done score boards for a while. It used to be a good field to be in, selling, installing, and maintaining score board/ displays, but now, there isn’t that much involved in the install process, or maintenance. Where you used to need mechanical assistance, and rigging experience, to install an average high school multi-purpose score board, It can now be done with two mechanics and a ladder. The old ‘Fair-Play’ score boards were made out of steel and were more electrical than electronic. With eletro-mechanical clock packs, line voltage relays, and hundreds of incandescent lamps, these boards were maintenance heavy, as well as just heavy. The new boards are light weight, fully electronic, and I’m betting, wirelessly networked to the controller. In most situations, the sale is between the manufacturer/ dealer, and the school directly, and installed by an electrical contractor.

What you must understand is that just because your post/thread has had 74 views and no replies, it proves that many dealers and mfg’s are reading what you’re asking/stating. Thus, you’re already in the, “score board,”  business whereas everyone sees what the teams are doing, even though they are not applauding.

If yu are looking for new revenue ideas , may i suggest digital signage and an oldie but goodie ..lighting control,very hot with energy managment right now if you know how to sell it.
