I recently did an installation with a Pansonic LCD and Panasonic BluRay player connected through an Onkyo 607 receiver.  He e-mailed me the other day and said that when he switched to BluRay, the TV displays static which flashes on and off.  When both components are powered on while the Onkyo is on the BD input, it works fine, but changing of the input starts the symptoms.  Could this be a problem with VieraLink?  Or worse, if it’s not getting the “handshake” over HDMI, how can I fix this?

Call Onkyo - not sure how confidential the info is any more, but Integra issued a dealer memo a while back indicating compatibility issues with some Panasonic TV models. You might consider a scaler in-line or some trickery with an external HDMI splitter if it can’t be resolved otherwise.

Just got off the phone with Panasonic, and they confirmed the problem.  Firmware update is in the mail.

I would recommend ALWAYS turning VieraLink off, on both the TV set and the Blu-Ray.  Have the universal remote control the input switching.  My experience has always been that these PROPRIETARY HDMI-CEC control options do nothing but cause problems!
