Hello friends,
I saw my IP address on the side of every post. Is this really necessary? You can (and should) keep an IP address for every post, but publishing it out in the open may cause some issues. Example: Mr.NiceGuy responds to a topic from his office. He only has one static IP at the office, where he uses a residential-grade router to surf the Internet and route e-mail to his company server at the office. Unknowingly, he also has port 3389 (Remote Desktop) forwarded to that server so his shabby IT guy (that should have put a VPN in place but took the easy route instead) can assist him remotely. By posting here on CE PRO they have essentially exposed Mr.NiceGuy’s server to an attack as the world now knows where to find their server, and all that has to be done is guess the server’s password. And, if someone put a camera system with no password - now everyone can see the cameras. So yes, Mr.NiceGuy should absolutely secure his system, but CE-Pro should also use information with care and protect its posters’ information. Is this making sense? I don’t mean to stir the pot - I am just looking for an answer.
