The “After” pic won’t attach… I’ll work on it and get it posted.

Thanks!

Well this isn’t a rookie mistake, it’s even worse!
Best Buy continues to run TV plugs through the wall down to an outlet.
Illegal and a clear violation of the NEC. I have sent about ten new customers back to the store to get their money back and everyone did. For the entire installation.

Do you have any pictures or an article to reference? I’d really like to use this kind of thing in my newsletter, blog, and facebook page, to let people know why they should use a custom installer instead of a big box or DIYer (friend, relative, etc.).

Inspired—we are running a story in Sept. issue of EH called: Don’t Try this at Home: 13 Rookie Mistakes. Superior is in there, as well as others in this thread.

PLEASE, dealers, please keep feeding these to us.

thanks

One mistake I see happen commonly is people not thinking about their future needs or the needs of the next person who might live in their home.  As an example, I had a client who INSISTED my company only prewire 1 phone jack in an obscure location. Their thinking was that they had a “base & handset” phone system that only needed one jack.  The rest were portables that needed power only.  Imagine being the next owner and not being able to plug in a phone in the kitchen, family room, or master bedroom!  Another client said they only needed 1 RG6 at each TV, even the main family room location.  They only wanted Cable and would never switch to anything else.  After some arm twisting i was able to get them to agree that some locations would receive 2 Coax and 2 Cat5.  If they purchased a new Internet enabled TV, or if a satellite subscriber purchased the house next, they would be disappointed, to say the least.  Yet another example is not pulling Cat5 (at least) cables to volume control locations.  Clients think they will never use them, but you never know what affordable, new product may be on the market in months or years that require cables you SHOULD have run when it was easy to do.
