Craigslist has worked well for me, too....you can find candidates for all your available positions and it’s only $25!  Good luck!

My best source in the past 12 months was actually monster.com - they had an introductory offer for $200 which allowed me to search their database for 4 days within 50 miles.  I found a handful of qualified candidates, interviewed and hired a lead tech.

Considering recruiters will charge a % of the first years salary, you might consider it.  I’m going to try Craigslist too - but when I’ve looked in the past I haven’t found anyone.

You know, Morgan’s right.  I missed the “AV” part of the original post (sorry)…

Craigslist has not been a good place for techs, at least in So. California.  When you need admin or customer service, though, it’s stellar. 

For AV, have you tried cepro.com/careers?  Another good one is infocomm.org (select jobs on the top right).  Or you can go directly to their job site http://niche.workopolis.com/CareerSite/Infocomm/NewSplash/ It costs about $250 for 60 days and they have a lot of traffic.

I recently left one AV manufacturer, searched around and joined a different manufacturer. My first stop was CEPro where I did not find a ton of listings but highly relevant ones.

If you are looking to fill a position with a salary of $100k or more, check out The Ladders.
If you are looking for programmers, check out CyberCoders, mixed results from a job hunting perspective but as an employer YMMV.
Crestron Yahoo Group, IntegrationPros are also great hangouts to post to, I never had luck with posting a job at AVS though.

How did I end up at VUDU? Of course I had heard of them and kept close eyes on the company since they launched but it was LinkedIN where I made my connection. Rather than post a job ad, many are finding success with pro-actively emailing prospects on linkedIN.

While on the subject, make sure whatever job ad you post for a technical position doesn’t contain a laundry list of required technologies and tech-buzz words that no one person could possibly possess, it annoys people and may scare of some potential star-employees.

By the way, CEDIA Expo is just around the corner, talk about a target audience!!
