Colorado vNet launches ZigBee RF Lighting Controls
image
Colorado vNet has added wireless to its aresenal of automated lighting controls.

The company is using ZigBee RF technology for its TD1 RF Touchpad Dimmers. Because ZigBee is a mesh networking technology, the wireless system only gets more robust as more products are added to it.

"A Colorado vNet RF system can consist of hundreds of modules," the company says.

The manufacturer also says that that, since the TD1 is ZigBee compliant, it allows for integration to other third-party ZigBee-compliant devices into your home automation system."

In fact, many ZigBee products incorporate different protocols, so not all ZigBee-compatible products will work with the TD1.

Colorado vNet touchpads can dim lighting loads directly, as well as serve as a whole-house controller. Many other systems require separate dimmers and keypads for the task.

The RF products work seamlessly with Colorado vNet's hardwired lighting controllers and Vibe audio system by adding a Systems Interconnect Module.

Vanco’s Patent-Pending Whole-House Audio & Home Theater Wall Plates
image
Batavia, IL. - Vanco International, Inc., an innovative supplier of home theater electronics for over 50 years, is introducing three patent-pending Whole House Audio and Home Theater Combination Wall Plates.

These exclusive wall plates are designed to allow for the connections of a whole house audio and home theater system at one convenient wall location. The unique combination of these two features on one wall plate offers a precise, professional installation. With three configurations available, installers will have no problem finding one that will work for their specific installation needs.

The first combination is a Whole House Audio with 6.2 Home Theater Wall Plate. This plate provides an open port (3/4" x 1-9/16") for bulk wire and direct connections to the system's A/V components and combines it with a 6.2 home theater plate designed for home theater systems that consist of (6) audio speakers and (2) subwoofers.

The next configuration is a Wide Port (dual gang) Whole House…

Applied Wireless: Wireless Audio Solutions
image
With new construction flat, the retrofit market is hot. So there's no better time than now to introduce wireless A/V products to the marketplace, which is what Applied Wireless plans to do from their CEDIA Expo booth.

The company, which has roots in the commercial, industrial and military markets, is coming out with "wireless products specifically targeted for the upper-end home theater market to make the installer's life easier," says Lee Fleishman, director of marketing.

At the 2007 show, Applied Wireless is focusing on a new line of wireless audio products for home theaters and multiroom applications. (Video products will be shown, but primarily for digital signage and other commercial apps.) Applied uses its own RF technology in the 900 MHz spectrum, which is better suited than today's 2.4 GHz solutions, Fleishman asserts.

AudioShare: All-Digital Intercom Systems
image
Intercoms stink. Music distribution systems stink.

That's the motto of AudioShare, which claims to be building a better system. For starters, the AudioShare product is all digital (PCM, not IP), which enables better sound quality and greater flexibility than standard analog solutions, says founder Steve Lindsey.

It's also "networkable," meaning a local source connected to any of the intercom stations can be accessed by any intercom on the network.

Any intercom also can control the volume of remote stations, thanks to "exclusive computer-controlled volume controls," as AudioShare calls it.

The intelligent controls allow users…

AudioControl Delivers Multichannel Audio, HD Video over Cat 5
image
What would you prefer—running two Cat 5 cables behind the wall to your flat-panel TV, or running enough fat cables for audio, component video, IR repeating and low-voltage triggers?

If you vote for the first option, AudioControl's new BVD-30 sender and BVR-30 receiver fit the bill. The combo delivers HD component video (1080p), three channels of audio (left, center, right) and two control signals up to 1,000 feet over Cat 5 cable.

AudioControl says its Active Balance Technology—both the driver and receiver are powered—rejects noise and "eliminates signal degradation."

“The new BVD-30 and BVR-30 will simplify the installation of a flat panel television by providing all the audio, video, and control signals via Cat 5,” says Tom Walker, AudioControl president. “Flat panel displays are easily mounted in a variety of locations, but there’s never been a convenient and reliable way to feed them high-quality picture and multichannel sound. Cat 5 is inexpensive, flexible, and small, making it the optimal and…

Crestron & Microsoft to Take Media-Centric Automation to ‘Whole New Level’
image
Crestron and Microsoft are doing something big together. The two companies are expected to launch some kind of media-centric control platform that will take their offerings "to a whole new level," says Fred Bargetzi, VP of technology for Crestron.

He and Crestron executive VP Randy Klein, however, refused to say just what kind of solution the two companies plan to introduce. They won't divulge their entire plans at CEDIA, but the duo will at least reveal the depth of their partnership, and may hint at their direction.

Crestron has been warming up to Microsoft for years. It started back in 2004 when the company introduced the Isys i/O line of touchpanels running Windows Embedded OS.

Crestron's next generation mobile Web/control interface, the XP-enabled TPMC-8X, introduced in September, 2006, was an even more striking Windows implementation, where Internet functionality was tightly integrated with home controls. For example, a Skype call might trigger a movie to pause and the lights to…
