SIM2, Krell to Share Booth at CEDIA Expo 2009

While some companies are scaling back their CEDIA Expo 2009 exhibits — or not exhibiting at all — SIM2 is looking to increase its presence and gain some market share.
That’s why the projector manufacturer decided to co-exhibit with Krell in booth 2912, according to SIM2. Bringing Krell’s high-end audio components into the mix, SIM2 says its full in-theater demos will “leave a lasting impression.”
Bill McKiegan, Krell’s VP of USA sales and marketing, goes even further. “We expect to deliver the most exciting home theater experience at the Expo.”
“Each brand represents the pinnacle of performance in its respective category,” says Charlie Boornazian, SIM2’s VP of sales and marketing.
Boornazian adds that the two companies have another connection. “We share the common goal of wanting to bring reference quality back to the forefront," he says. "While many brands are trying to ‘make do’ with low-priced products,…

Audio Manufacturers Need to Learn From Their Video Counterparts

The audio community needs to prove to custom installers and consumers why audio is as essential to home theater as big-screen video displays.
At CEDIA Expo, compelling audio demos were few and far between. While respected vendors like McIntosh, RBH, Wisdom, ADA, Transparent, Thiel, Meridian and JL Audio were running demos, there's a lot more audio manufacturers can do to sell their products.
There's a large demographic that will spend lots of money for non-essential home entertainment products. Video brands like Runco, Digital Projection, Stewart Filmscreen, Screen Research and SIM2 sell expensive products to consumers on a regular basis.
These video companies know that no consumer is going to buy an expensive item on hype alone.
They spend a lot of time and effort to present efficient, well-designed demos that stir show attendees and motivate them to sell their products.
Instead of putting up, some audio manufacturers claim that shows like CEDIA and…

TiVo Launches HD XL DVR, Teams Up with DirecTV

TiVo has launched its new TiVo HD XL Digital Video Recorder, which the company says offers more recording capacity than other available DVRs.
The THX-Certified DVR, being displayed here at CEDIA Expo 2008 (booth 1083), stores more than 150 hours of HD content and has one HDMI cable.
TiVo HD XL also boasts dual tuners so users can record two different HD shows at the same time, while watching a third pre-recorded show.
TiVo, which just reported profits in Q2, says the HD XL offers enough storage to "appease even the most devoted entertainment fans."
"What is great about the XL is it gives content lovers plenty of room for all the programming they love, saving them from having to decide if they need to prematurely delete a favorite movie or a big game memory when space gets tight," says Andrew Morrison, director of product platforms at TiVo.

NuVision Control System Aims to Reduce Install Time

NuVision is offering a glimpse of its six-zone, four-source amplified distribution, matrix and control system at CEDIA Expo 2008.
The MultiView NCMVIR46 High-Definition Amplified Cat-5 Distribution and Control System simplifies setting up pass-through systems for control and setting up control processors for multiple displays, according to NuVision.
The NCMVIR46, not expected to ship until Q1 2009, provides a matrix switch solution that was pre-integrated with NuVision displays to store discrete source commands.
It allows integrators to tie control systems into one box to have control of any display and any source, reducing programming and installation time.
“Now, NuVision provides a complete custom video install solution from the display back to the source,” says NuVision CEO Scott Deley.
The NCMVIR46 also includes:
