Crestron’s Procise Demo Creates Buzz at CEDIA Expo
Crestron's nearly 10,000-square-foot booth at CEDIA Expo 2009, as you might expect, house the latest in control, automation and Web-based technologies.

What you wouldn't expect, however, is that the demo of Crestron's Procise line in the company's sound room was one of the best system demos at the show.

The Procise line includes the PSPHD Processor, PROAMP Amplifier, ADMS Server and ADC-200BR Blu-ray Disc Changer.

Crestron walked attendees through some of the system's features, which include:
  • Interoperability with its control products
  • Web-based streaming of content and metadata information
  • Audyssey EQ
  • Uncompressed audio processing
  • RAID backup
Crestron then used a clip from "Iron Man" to prove it's capable of offering solutions outside its core line that are as good as those that come from traditional home theater manufacturers.

The sound room itself was also pretty impressive, engineered with acoustical treatments and supported by a nice array of screen, projector, and speaker products.

Sony’s HomeShare HD Merges Home Theater with Multiroom Video
image
Sony's new HomeShare HD system is designed to merge home theater and multiroom audio in a single "plug-and-play" affordable system.

While many integrators have honed their businesses to be specialists in home theater and others have taken advantage of multiroom audio/video, Sony is hoping to end that gap.

Features of the HomeShare HD system include:
  • iPod connectivity
  • satellite radio control
  • HD video distribution
  • intercom and CCTV connectivity
  • a new graphical user interface touchpanel that mimics the PS3 and Blu-ray on-screen display
  • expandability
The system was unveiled during a press conference at the CEDIA Expo in Denver, but Neal Manowitz, director of marketing for Sony's consumer systems and applications division, gave CE Pro a sneak peek at the system.

Manowitz says the product addresses the two hottest areas for integrators all in one system by offering complete home theater integration with whole-house video distribution.

"Sony is one of the few companies capable of doing this," he adds. "The home theater gear doesn't need to…

Yamaha's YSP-3050 is the latest in the company's line of Digital Sound Projectors.

The YSP-3050, which will be on display at CEDIA Expo 2008 (booth 450), is designed to fit under flat-panel TVs to provide a space-efficient option to installing multiple speakers in a room for immersive audio.

HTRoom.com: Home Theater Decor and Furniture
image
First-time CEDIA Expo exhibitor HTRoom.com offers "everything for the home theater room except the electronics," according to Damien Smith, sales manager.

Despite the lack of electronics in its product line, however, the Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.-based company has high-tech solutions for attendees.

The manufacturer of home theater seating and home theater décor items -- like wall panels, columns, wall accents, fiber-optic ceiling panels, home theater riser platforms and curtains -- is marketing a Web feature that integrators can use on their sites.

For dealers that don't have Web sites or would like to add a link to their Web sites where people can learn about and purchase HTRoom.com products, it has set up an "affiliate program."

Top Runco Dealers Debate THX Certification
image
With much fanfare, Runco unveiled the first-ever THX-certified projectors at the CEDIA Expo last year. The Runco VX-2cx family of projectors and the Vidikron Vision models 90t and 100t -- all 3-chip DLP projectors -- all bore the vaunted THX logo.

Seven months later, THX invited dealer feedback during the Runco Getaway in Los Cabos, Mexico, where top Runco dealers and reps actually convened for some serious meetings between the belly-flop contests and wine-tasting soiree.

The verdict on THX-certified video? "Nah, it doesn't really matter. …I guess it's one more thing to talk about," said one dealer.

THX vice president of sales Robert Hewitt and the Runco crew worked hard to sway the skeptics.

"There is a need for a performance benchmark for people to understand what represents good quality," Hewitt said. "People come up with [their own] ways to validate their claims. It's confusing for consumers to understand. ……
