Eclipse Offers Security Dealers Marketing Templates

They say home security is recession-proof. That seems like a good reason for CE pros who offer security to pump some marketing into it.
Eclipse Marketing is targeting CE pros with a new line of security brochure templates. The templates feature the most common types of security solutions for home and commercial applications, according to Eclipse president Leslie Stevens.
CE pros can choose residential, commercial or both. The material is then personalized with the company’s unique services, logo, colors and contact information.
Stevens hopes to discuss developing unique, affordable marketing possibilities at CEDIA Expo 2009.
“Due the increased demand for security systems, combined with integrators and dealers desire to market their business, we’ve developed an affordable line of marketing material that feature security solutions," Stevens says. "We understand that dealers and integrators want their own unique identity, so all pre-designed templates are personalized for every company to…

Schlage’s Z-Wave Door Lock is Sweet, But is Web App Overkill?

Schlage's new Z-Wave-enabled door lock is what this industry's been missing.
We first announced in May that Schlage was developing a wireless electronic lock that communicates with the Internet via a Z-Wave gateway.
The company demonstrated the solution for the first time here at CEDIA Expo 2008.
It's nice. It's what this industry needs – an easy way to lock and unlock the doors from a cell phone, the Internet, a key fob, or a button by your bed stand.
At only $199 retail, it's just $50 or $60 more than traditional electronic deadbolts and lever locks.
But that's not exactly what Schlage is promoting. The company has created a complete Web-enabled home-control system that enables remote access to lights, thermostats, surveillance cameras, and other automated devices including Schlage locks.
The Web service is called Schlage Link, and the company plans…

Control4, Black & Decker Partner for Residential Access Control

Control4 has entered a strategic relationship to develop Black & Decker's interoperable residential access control solutions.
The solutions will be marketed under the Baldwin, Kwikset, and Weiser Lock brands.
Homeowners, through this partnership, will be able to manage and control the ZigBee radio-equipped door locks directly via the Control4 home automation platform.
This feature will allow homeowners to create events triggered by the push of a button from anywhere in the home or remotely via the Internet.
The two companies are offering a sneak-peak during the CEDIA Expo 2008 in booths 480 (Control4) and 493 (Black & Decker).
The solution attempts to solve an age-old quandary about the design of electronic security systems — they don’t incorporate the front door lock as part of the detection system.
It seems crazy, but it’s true. Residential doors are only monitored by the…

Russound Collage: Music, Intercom, Surveillance & Control over Powerlines

Russound, the most popular brand in multiroom audio, is taking its technology to the powerline.
At CEDIA Expo 2008, the company will demonstrate (behind closed doors) the new Collage system, which offers whole-house music, video surveillance, and intercom functionality for retrofit applications – no new wires required (unless you count a few short runs of speaker cable).
Russound is using HomePlug 1.0 to deliver the audio and video streams, as well as the control signals from the touchpad to the sources.
Russound is the second company in a week to announce a multiroom audio system based on HomePlug. Rival NuVo Technologies is launching Renovia, a whole-house music system that taps into the Romex (electrical) wiring prevalant in every home.
Except for the fact that both Russound and NuVo are using HomePlug, the two solutions are substantially different.

ADT SafeWatch SafePass Eliminates Need for Security Passwords

The average American is plagued with a plethora of passwords — about 15 per household, says ADT.
The company says its new SafeWatch SafePass is helping make life easier by eliminating the need to remember passwords each time users interact with their home alarm system.
SafeWatch, which will be displayed at CEDIA Expo 2008 (booth 934), helps minimize false alarms. This keytag, when waved at the touch pad on an ADT alarm system, activates or disarms the system.
ADT says its the only security company in the United States to offer this technology.
"We think SafePass is ideal for ADT customers who have their hands full when they come home and need to easily activate their security system," says Jason Nordin, VP of marketing for ADT North America.
Another benefit of having SafePass, the company adds, is the keytags can be programmed to work only at specific times, allowing homeowners to…

Russound’s ComPoint Camera Door Station Makes Video Security Inconspicuous

PRESS RELEASE
DENVER, CO, September 4, 2007 -- Russound, the #1 brand in multiroom audio, today announced a new ComPoint Camera Door Station that conceals a weather-resistant, low-light security camera behind its attractive cosmetics, and integrates video security with a Russound ComPoint communication system. The Camera Door Station lets homeowners conveniently see who's at the door from a television or dedicated monitor anywhere in the house, without subjecting visitors to the intimidating presence of a video camera.
“We all want to know who’s at the door, but getting up to see isn’t always desirable or possible," said Russound Product Manager Roger Soucy. "Russound was one of the first companies to integrate security and intercom with distributed entertainment through our ComPoint system, and the Camera Door Station is a great extension. Now it's easy to add video security monitoring into any installation, without detracting from the home's exterior with an unattractive security camera."
Like its predecessor, the standard Door Station, the new…
