Fuze Media Center Built Specifically for Whole-House Audio

Fuze Media is a startup that wanted to come up with the ultimate out-of-the-box multimedia experience, including whole-house audio and video, photo sharing, music and movie management, PVR capabilities, the works.
The result is the Fuze Media Server which starts with the FuzeBox media server hub and FuzeMini server clients. They look a lot like Media Center PCs.
Fuze insists that they aren't. Specifically, Fuze says it is "not a control or MCE system."
Yet the main Fuze server, the FuzeBox, is OEMed by Velocity Micro, has the same CableCard capabilities, same form factor, and same Viiv logo as one of Velocity's Media Center PCs.
The Fuze jargon is also Media Center-like:

DVDO’s VP50 Pro: First Video Processor with HDMI 1.3 Receiver / Transmitter Chips

This original article had to do with DVDO's release of the "world's first video processor to feature THX certification," the DVDO iScan VP50 Pro. In fact, the first release of the VP50 Pro will not include the certification, but it will be, according to the manufacturer, "the world's first video processor for home theater systems to utilize HDMI 1.3 receiver/transmitter chips.
The technology allows users to connect other HDMI-compliant 1.3 devices which support high-definition audio formats and Deep Color available on some
newer sources like HD-DVD Blu-Ray and PS3. "This capability allows the VP50 PRO to provide customers with years of service as new source devices with this standard start to emerge," the company says.
Meanwhile, it does expect to receive THX certification "soon, but not today."
Read the final press release on the VP50 Pro.

URC Adds 433 MHz RF Remotes, More Memory for MX-350, Brand New Remotes

Universal Remote Control is making its products more international-friendly, introducing 433 MHz versions of its MX-3000, MX-900 remote controls and MRF-350, RFX-250 and MSC-400 RF base stations.
Collectively, they are known as the i-series, labeled MX-3000i, MX-900i, etc. The original versions (MX-300, MX-900, etc.) will still be available at 418 MHz.
"This gives custom installers a great option if they are dealing with insurmountable RF interference," says director of marketing Jon Sienkiewicz. "The "i" stands for "international" because, as we all know, UK, Western Europe, parts of Eurasia and other areas proscribe 418 MHz transmitters."
In other URC news, the company has doubled the memory of its flagship MX-350 remote (now internally designated MX-350n) and "improved other internal features," Sienkiewicz says.
He also points out that all URC Complete Control remotes (MX-350 and up) use narrowband RF and are thereby compatible with the MSC-400, the newish MRF-350 and the forthcoming MRF-260.

NuVo’s Grand Essentia is First Multiroom Audio System with Energy Star

The release last year of NuVo's Grand Concerto multiform audio system was wildly successful, according to company president David Rodarte. So why not bring some of the great features of that 6x8 product to its little sister, the 6x6 Essentia?
At CEDIA, NuVo will introduce the Grand Essentia, whose hallmark is the sleek OLED display -- just like the one that makes the Grand Concerto so elegant. For the Grand Essentia, NuVo shrunk the interface to a single-gang display which has the "same level of information, just fewer lines of text," says Steve Horton, director of education.
Similarly, NuVo flattened the original 2U (two rack spaces) Essentia to a slender 1U box, while maintaining essentially the same feature set, including 40 watts of power per zone.
"No other six-source, six-zone system available on the market today fits in a single vertical space on a rack," NuVo claims. The lightweight unit weighs only 6.5 lbs.

Crestron & Microsoft to Take Media-Centric Automation to ‘Whole New Level’

Crestron and Microsoft are doing something big together. The two companies are expected to launch some kind of media-centric control platform that will take their offerings "to a whole new level," says Fred Bargetzi, VP of technology for Crestron.
He and Crestron executive VP Randy Klein, however, refused to say just what kind of solution the two companies plan to introduce. They won't divulge their entire plans at CEDIA, but the duo will at least reveal the depth of their partnership, and may hint at their direction.
Crestron has been warming up to Microsoft for years. It started back in 2004 when the company introduced the Isys i/O line of touchpanels running Windows Embedded OS.
Crestron's next generation mobile Web/control interface, the XP-enabled TPMC-8X, introduced in September, 2006, was an even more striking Windows implementation, where Internet functionality was tightly integrated with home controls. For example, a Skype call might trigger a movie to pause and the lights to…

Inteset Offers Blu-ray HD-DVD Combo Option On Servers

Inteset, LLC is now offering an optional Blu-ray HD-DVD combo drive in its Maximus and Denzel media server systems. The Media Centers can play back both Blu-ray and HD-DVD discs in full 1080p resolution from a single drive.
“It’s been a long time coming,” says David Hirsh, Inteset’s Director of Business Development. “Users now have no limitations for movie playback. DVDs, Blu-ray, HD-DVD, it doesn’t matter. Our media servers handle all of these formats."
Blu-ray and HD-DVD playback is facilitated through CyberLink’s PowerDVD Ultra software. All high definition 7.1 surround sound formats are supported without the need of a separate receiver or pre-processor, including Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS audio.

Top Runco Dealers Debate THX Certification

With much fanfare, Runco unveiled the first-ever THX-certified projectors at the CEDIA Expo last year. The Runco VX-2cx family of projectors and the Vidikron Vision models 90t and 100t -- all 3-chip DLP projectors -- all bore the vaunted THX logo.
Seven months later, THX invited dealer feedback during the Runco Getaway in Los Cabos, Mexico, where top Runco dealers and reps actually convened for some serious meetings between the belly-flop contests and wine-tasting soiree.
The verdict on THX-certified video? "Nah, it doesn't really matter. …I guess it's one more thing to talk about," said one dealer.
THX vice president of sales Robert Hewitt and the Runco crew worked hard to sway the skeptics.
"There is a need for a performance benchmark for people to understand what represents good quality," Hewitt said. "People come up with [their own] ways to validate their claims. It's confusing for consumers to understand. ……
