NAD Electronics NAD M51
MSRP: $2000Shipdate: 03/01/2012

NAD’s Direct Digital technology is unique in both its extreme precision and in its speed. This advancement was first introduced in the NAD M2 Direct Digital Amplifier to worldwide acclaim. Now this innovative Direct Digital technology is available as a standalone DAC. Instead of using the Direct Digital processor to drive a high power output stage, we employ a line level analog output that will perfectly interface with any analogue system with the M51 Direct Digital DAC. The incredible precision of the M51’s processing engine gives music a vibrancy and transient accuracy that must be heard to be appreciated. The conversion process from PCM to PWM completely eliminates any jitter present on the incoming signal; again, offering state-of-the-art performance in this most important parameter. Due to the very high clock speed and mathematical precision of our reconstruction filters, the resulting audio signal is totally free of digital artifacts like ringing. A Pure Class A analogue stage with very low output impedance provides the perfect interface to your favourite amplifier. Also, both balanced and single-ended outputs are available.
Features
1) The M51 Direct Digital DAC uses the same high precision digital processing as NAD’s groundbreaking M2 Direct Digital Amplifier but in a new format that easily interfaces with high performance analog components.
2) Next Generation Connectivity While the M51 includes the industry standard SPDIF inputs, including AES/EBU, Optical and Coaxial. The M51 also includes the latest USB technology fully supporting 192kHz sample rates, allowing direct connection of a PC or Mac. HDMI provides an encrypted HD Audio connection in PCM’s native I2S format up to 24 bit 192kHz. 3) More Than Just a DAC M51 is a fully functional digital preamp with six digital inputs and one of the world’s best volume controls. As a ‘preamp’ it is totally noise and distortion free because all switching and volume control is done in the digital domain.
Integrator Benefit
Next generation connectivity includes I2S inputs via HDMI and an Asynchronous USB input featuring audio codec 2.0 with 24bit/192 kHz support. There is also an HDMI video pass-through allowing the M51 Direct Digital DAC to strip the 2 channel PCM sound track from Blu-ray and DVD discs while passing unprocessed video to the video display, creating a 2.0 Home Theater experience. Finally, traditional S/PDIF inputs supporting AES/EBU, Coaxial and Optical connections with 24 bit 192 kHz resolution are also provided. The NAD M51 is more than just a DAC; it is also a remote controlled Digital Preamp, with six digital inputs and one of the world’s most accurate volume controls. As a preamp, it is totally noise and distortion free because all switching and volume control is done in the digital domain. The Class A output buffer offers both balanced (XLR) and single ended outputs. Being a Masters Series component it is solidly built and beautifully finished with a 2mm steel chassis, 14mm aluminum fascia and die-cast vibration isolating feet. Full access for integration is provided by IR and 12V trigger inputs and an RS-232 interface port.
