Wi3 Names DDG First Distributor
Wi3's MoCA-based in-wall networking products provide Ethernet connections for connected TVs over existing coax cables.
Wi3 Inc. is launching its patented In-Wall IPTV/SmartTV home networking products to the custom installation market via the Digital Delivery Group (DDG).
Wi3 (Wired, WiFi, Wideband) debuted its in-wall interchangeable cartridge unit that slips into a sleeve in a single-gang box back at CES 2011 in January. The sleeve is connected to the coax cable in the home. This original launch product is powered locally, but future products will pull power over coax (PoC). The unit currently comes in a hardwired with a WiFi version due out by CEDIA Expo. The wired cartridge has two RJ45 jacks and one CATV F Connector, and the WiFi version has one RJ45 Jack and one F Connector. The Ethernet signal from the router can enter the system from any Wi3 Port connected to the coax network using Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) technology.
Wi3 is run by former UStec execs Bill Thompson and Ted Place. DDG's 16 members will sell the units nationwide to CE pros.
"The Digital Delivery Group is the ideal distribution partner to bring our Wi3 products to market" says Thompson, CEO of Wi3 Inc. "With their well-established network of distributors, extensive base of dealers/ installers and commitment to best-of-class innovative products, DDG is a very significant partner. Together with DDG, we are poised to change the face of home networking and facilitate the growth of IPTV / SmartTV in the United States."
David Kaplan, executive director of the Digital Delivery Group, dubs the Wi3 product line as a "game-changing innovation in home technology."
