Why Are There More HDMI System Failures?
Signal integrity issues causing problems throughout systems.
Every week we get urgent tech calls from CE pros whose residential clients are experiencing a system failure that prevents them from completing an installation.
In order to understand these HDMI system failures, one needs to look at the big picture.
At two of the sites, the installer had added an A/V receiver to the system, after which it promptly failed. So, of course, the installer blamed the AVR.
It turned out not to be the AVR; it was the Blu-ray player.
In troubleshooting yet another system failure, the installer added Cat 5 extenders (or baluns), which failed one week after he completed the installation. Substituting the extenders with those from another brand solved the problem. However, he used these extenders before with no problem.
So what's causing these failures? They were due to multiple signal integrity issues throughout the systems. Every one was corrected.
