07.02.2009 — Vizio, which just recently unveiled its 2009 lineup of HDTVs, is adding a slew of content partners to its line of Internet Apps (VIA) Connected HDTVs.

The XVT series HDTVs, which will ship in Fall 2009, will now come equipped with eBay, Facebook, Radiotime, Revision 3, Rallypoint Sports, Showtime, Twitter and Vudu.

The VIA Connected HDTVs have integrated 802.11n dual-band wireless and wired networking to access these Internet features. The sets will also work with the Yahoo! Widget Engine, Amazon Video On Demand, Blockbuster On Demand, Flickr, Netflix, Pandora and Rhapsody.

Vizio offers these descriptions for the new features:

ReAlist,

They have working discreet codes now. http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-discrete/thread.cgi?5478

This is a good sign.. not just vizio but everyone who is integrating the web into their products. These are freebie bells and whistles that some clients may not care about but some may fall in love with.

The only downside is that if the TV fails.. the client loses the bells and whistles and we cant reproduce them without a major upgrade charge.

So hopefully.. things like this become a standard.

Let’s hope the company (companies?) wisely continue to make “standard” sets WITHOUT these intrusive internet leeches that mind too much of one’s business—(just my opinion, I know).
Valuing my privacy, I for one will never buy a TV set that is so equipped.  My Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players have never been connected to the internet and never will. I choose to keep my viewing business, as my internet business, to myself.
Big Brother will NOT be watching at my house.
