There's a lot of interest in all those connected TVs unleashed at CES 2009, according to Oregan Networks.

A new study found 71 percent of respondents "would prefer a default media browser to be installed" into their next HDTV.

If the TV didn't come with a built-in browser, 29 percent of respondents say they "definitely would" download one, while 45 percent would "likely" download one.

The study also found:
  • 69 percent of respondents would pay to download a digital media browser to their next TV
  • 87 percent of respondents would select a TV with a media browser because it offers more entertainment
The study also says online services such as YouTube and Hulu, as well as Netflix and CinemaNow, add the most value to a TV set.

According to Oregan Networks, the ability to access Video on Demand services without a PC is the most valuable feature of a TV media browser. The ability to search a home network for content on other devices was the second-most valuable feature, while access to user-generated content on YouTube was third.

Yep - disco’ed Directv last month after 13 years.  Our household entertainment content comes via web, internet radio, pandora, and that which put us over the edge to pull the plug was Netflix instant streaming content.  Added a small HDTV antenna where the dish was to get our 1 local HDTV terrestrial feed and done.

HD is not a big part of the equation in our house at this time, the content we enjoy is not made better by HDTV resoultions, in fact, we have dropped back to 3.1 channel sound to reduce unneed stimulation.  I will pursue HD as it becomes part of the equation in such a way that we don not sacrifice ease of use and the video display as the UI or browser.

Is it me or have the kids in the sound studios lost all ability to control themselves when it comes to added sound effects in everything including the news and weather?

Or is this what getting old is?

If your goals are “unneeded stimulation” and “ease of use”, then yes, you’re old.

Hmmm….

I was afraid of that.

I like wine, it provides neccesary stimulation and is very easy to use!
