Sony has announced two Blu-ray megachangers — the BDP-CX960 and BDP-CX7000ES that hold up to 400 Blu-ray discs, DVDs and CDs.

The BDP-CX7000ES features RS232 to integrate with third-party systems, and both megachangers come with Gracenote's MusicID and VideoID software to organize music and movie collections.

When a disc is inserted, the technology automatically downloads related info, and users can scroll through titles on the xross media bar menu.

Other features:
  • Upscaling to 1080p via Sony's Precision Cinema HD Upscale technology
  • Full HD 1080/60p and 24p True Cinema
  • 7.1-channel Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, DTS-HD Master Audio
  • Formats: BD-ROM/R/RE, DVD-+ Video/R/RW, CD/R/RW and MP3/JPEG on BD/DVD/CD recordable media
  • Deep Color (xvYCC)

Singe-loading BDP-S1000ES

Sony also introduced the single-loading BDP-S1000ES, which includes built-in Wi-Fi (802.11N/G/B/A) for BD-Live convenience. The unit is DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) ready so it can be connected to compliant devices.

Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio are onboard, plus 7.1-channel analog output to connect with legacy receivers.

MSRP: BDP-CX960 ($800 in Fall 2009); BDP-CX7000ES ($1,900 in August 2009); BDP-S1000ES ($700 in August).

Hey Arlen

Are you sure the BDP-CX960 has RS232?  We are a Sony dealer and nothing that we have received on the BDP-CX960 indicates that it will have RS232.  The BDP-CX7000ES will absolutely have it, but even on the Sony website if you look at the pictures of the back, I don’t see it.  Also, your middle picture is mislabeled it is the BDP-CX960.

@dvr321, thanks for the catches - couple of glitches in the posting process, but yes the RS232 for the ES model would be one of the big differences between the two. Fixed.

I am not a big fan of mega changers or sonys video game user interface but IMO.. this is a sweet product smile

BD slow loading + Waiting for mega changer to bring BD around to the player = Nice half hour break between movies.
