Samsung Combines Blu-ray 3D Player and A/V Receiver
The company's $599 HW-D7000 has the best of both worlds with the latest tech specs of a quality A/V receiver plus a Blu-ray 3D player accessible from the front panel.
The HW-D7000 is expected to arrive in May with a $599 MSRP.
Samsung made a slew of new 3D announcements last week. However, one of the most interesting was a release date and pricing for the HW-D7000.
First announced at January's Consumer Electronics Show, this is the first component to combine a receiver and a Blu-ray 3D player under one chassis. Talk about multitasking! The 7.1-channel receiver boasts 120 watts per channel, four HDMI inputs, Audio Channel Return, and support for Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD Master Audio and Dolby Pro Logic IIz.
Of course, the fun part is the Blu-ray 3D player, which is featured right on the front, alongside the brushed metallic finish and a high-gloss panel. That panel (which is a touchscreen) also features icons to navigate through the system. The HW-D7000 also has its own remote.
The HW-D7000 can also access all kinds of Smart Blu-ray Home Theater features, such as Samsung Apps. That includes content from Netflix, Pandora, and other partners.
The receiver also features built-in Wi-Fi and DLNA support.
The HW-D7000 should hit shelves in May with an MSRP of $599.99.

This will be an awesome consumer product. It will eliminate 1 point of failure with HDMI and an additional device from your macros & universal remotes. @$599 its low enough so that you dont care if 1 of the combined products fails. If they have a TV button with remote codes most people will be able to use a single remote to watch a movie (plus another for cable and another for xbox but… at least BD watching will be painless)
The cons (from a CI’s perspective)
1.Price point leads me to believe their isn’t much power for surround. Hopefully they come out with higher end models. This unit is obviously meant for the average comsumer (which is fine, just sayin).
2.Samsung brand in a combo unit like this doesn’t make me feel good about discrete command availability.
3.Our source distribution model has us routing AV out of local sources back to the rack so we can share them around the house. So the master bedroom BD player can be used in the master bath, sitting room, gym wherever. We use local AVR’s purely for amps in surround zones. We only utilize 1 set of inputs (from the rack) and 1 set of outputs (speaker level for speakers / video to TV).
