RemoteCentral Reviews Sony’s Remote Control for PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Player
Also updated: how to control Sony Blu-ray disc player through IR remotes
Daniel Tonks, proprietor of RemoteCentral.com, the remote-control Web site to the stars, has tried just about every technique for controlling Blu-ray through the Sony PlayStation 3 (not easy), and for integrating Blu-ray control into a more traditional universal remote experience (WAY not easy).
He now offers a review of the Sony's official Bluetooth-based remote control, "which decidedly cannot be integrated with any universal remotes," he says.
He adds:

Also, Daniel has updated his article on controlling the Sony Blu-ray disc player through IR remotes, whose codes can be learned into off-the-shelf universal remotes. He compares the Nyko Blu-Wave Infrared Remote for PlayStation 3 and the Logic3 PS3 Blu-ray / DVD Remote Control.

He adds:
Although the concept of adding another remote to the coffee table goes against every “remote consolidation” fiber in my being, there are some very good reasons why you might want to do so!

I too have tried the Nyko and other brands listed in Daniel’s excellent article and have found some of the codes to flaky and very hard to learn and there is often a lag time between button presses and actual execution of commmnads by the PS3.
The real bummer is that only the Blue tooth Sony remote has a power on and off, if you call holding down the PS key and going thru selection prompts.
I know that Universal remote’s MSC-400 controller has a USB port that can output serial commmands which would mean that a simple USB to USB connection would make the PS3 controllable if only Sony would come up with discrete serial on and off codes, anybody listening at Sony SCEA or Tokyo?
