With increased competition and falling prices, Sony, a supporter of the Blu-ray disc format, is surprising its dealers by cutting $100 off the price of its BDP-S300 Blu-ray player.
The player, which
is available Monday, has an MSRP of $499. Recently, Toshiba cut the price of the company's HD-A2 HD DVD player to $299, which
lifted sales "as much as tenfold at some retailers," according to Video Business.
Sony's first-generation Blu-ray player, the BDP-S1, launched with an MSRP of $999. It now sells for $799.
