Sherwood America is shipping its first Blu-ray player — the BDP-5003.

The Profile 1.1 (Bonus View) BDP-5003, introduced at CEDIA Expo 2008, supports 1080p playback at 60 Hz or 24 Hz, as well as lossless audio from both Dolby and DTS through its HDMI output.

The BDP-5003 also features:
  • 1080p upscaling of DVDs
  • Front-panel USB port
  • Composite, S-video, component and HDMI 1.3 outputs
  • Decoding of all authorized Blu-ray surround formats
  • Playback of DivX, JPEG and MP3 files
  • Coaxial and Toslink digital audio outputs
  • An Ethernet port for firmware upgrades and 192kHz/24-bit audio DACs
Sherwood says the "entry-level" Blu-ray player is aimed at "consumers that are looking to step up to high-definition discs but have been waiting for an affordable solution."

Sherwood says the BDP-5003 is available at stores nationwide.
