Leviton has launched a new group of IP-based commercial video security products communicating via unshielded twisted pair wire. Aptly, the package of products is called the
UTP Security Solutions suite.
The more than 20 new connectivity components will enable businesses to connect analog security cameras and recording equipment over UTP cabling. This infrastructure will permit IT staff to maintain the security network, streamlining facility management and upgrades.
It’s yet another instance of a manufacturer rooted in the residential market seeing an opportunity in commercial. Universal Remote Control (URC) recently
announced its first foray into commercial products.
The Security Solutions suite includes active and passive video transceiver baluns as well as video, power, and data (VPD) transceivers and signal integrators. Long distance cable runs of up to 2,000 feet and even 4,000 feet are possible with the active receiver products.
VPD products transmit all three signals (video, power, data) on a single 4-pair UTP cable.
“Cabling video security over UTP is the best choice for both new construction and retrofit projects,” says Dan Underbrink, RCDD, senior applications engineer with Leviton’s Network Solutions business unit.
“Converged cabling reduces network construction and maintenance costs, eases cable congestion, and improves power quality for security equipment. But most importantly, standards-based cabling is scalable. It supports traffic growth as well as migration to IP-based systems.”
Leviton’s Security Solutions suite is only available through integrators.
