Neat-O: CEDIA’s Best Dressed System
Electronics Design Group won CEDIA's technical design award for this system.
This home’s over-the-top racks earned a CEDIA Best Dressed System award for Electronics Design Group.
Electronics Design Group (EDG) has a knack for doing meticulous installations.
EDG's work has attracted many awards throughout the years, including two Gold awards (Fun Room, Kitchen) for this year's Electronic House Home of the Year contest.
The New Jersey-based company also won CEDIA's Best Dressed System award at CEDIA Expo 2008, a technical design award that "really shows the workmanship," says EDG founder Bob Gullo.
Gullo points out that the careful engineering that goes on behind the scenes "is really the statement of the craftsmanship." (Slideshow: 7 Fine-Looking Installations)
The award-winning Best Dressed system was engineered by EDG's senior shop technician Antonio Pereira, who builds the company's racks at its New Jersey facility.
This Fairfield County, Conn. homeowner is not your typical client. "He's in a related field," Gullo notes. "So, making his equipment look good was part of the process from the start. Not all clients are willing to pay for the time it takes to do the racks this way."
The homeowner's expectations were "simplistic and consistent operation," Gullo explains, along with "serviceability and neatness." The project included about 20 TVs, all accessing satellite TV, AppleTV and a Kaleidescape server. "And every TV works identically in every room,” Gullo adds.
The project included extensive integration as well. EDG tied in security, CCTV, lighting as well as pool and spa systems.
Congratulations to Bob Gullo and Antonio Pereira for a Neat-O! installation. We’re looking for over-the-top projects. Cool, unique, tidy or meticulous, share your best work with our readers. Neat-O! Tips
For a clean and serviceable rack, Antonio Pereira - whose work won Electronics Design Group a Best Dressed System award from CEDIA last fall - offers these tips to fellow integrators:
- Think Functionality. “Equipment in the rack should be assembled in a manner that will make the connections easier and more efficient,” Pereira says.
- Support Your Wires. “Using lacing bars on the back rails of a rack will maintain a clean look and also support the wires,” he says.
"From early on, I knew this house was going to be a great piece of publicity for us," says Gullo. "Plus, the client will be a phenomenal referral source for us, and that will go a long way."For a clean and serviceable rack, Antonio Pereira - whose work won Electronics Design Group a Best Dressed System award from CEDIA last fall - offers these tips to fellow integrators:

On that note, there appears to be a severely under-utilized Monster Power on the rack farthest to the right.

Monster Power? Sad when some clients are so clueless that anything can be put by them.
