LG’s New Passive 3D TV Earns THX Certification
LG's ultra-slim Nano Full LED 3D TV debuting at CEDIA Expo 2011 is the first passive 3D set to gain THX certification.
3D has played a starring role at electronics tradeshows the past two years, and should again during CEDIA Expo 2011 in Indianapolis.
The wrinkle we're likely to see this year is more evidence of how 3D is maturing. Up first: LG's 55LW9800 Nano Full LED 3D TV.
LG is debuting the model at CEDIA, showcasing not only passive 3D - which has gained momentum since the active 3D format made the initial splash - but THX certification. That makes the Nano Full LED the first passive 3D TV to receive THX certification (for 2D use as well), which must meet rigorous A/V technical standards to achieve.
According to LG, "the 55LW9800 passed more than 400 THX tests evaluating left and right eye images for color accuracy, cross-talk, viewing angles and video processing performance."
Additionally, the Nano Full LED employs 480Hz refresh, a full array of LEDs, plus a narrow bezel and super-slim depth of 1.08 inches.
There's built-in Wi-Fi to help deal with the other big trend of smart TVs. Par for the course these days, viewers can access Amazon, MOG, Hulu Plus, Skype options and more from the LG App Store, including a "3D Zone." There's even a gesture-based remote to control it all.
The 55LW9800 is available in a 55-inch class size (54.6-inch measured diagonally) with an MSRP of $3,799.

Oh Snap. So is it available in the market now? I am so excited, I was in dilemma because I couldn’t make up my mind between active and passive. I couldn’t pick one because I was concerned about its picture quality on passive, and comfortableness and cost on active set. But I was going to buy passive set anyway because I thought it had more advantages than active set. However, now I have no concern about my decision because I now clearly know what to get for myself.
