Jolly Good Time at KEF 50th Anniversary Celebration

The British loudspeaker manufacturer celebrated its golden anniversary in style at the penthouse of Her Majesty's Consul General in New York City.

England's Consul General Danny Lopez probably wishes KEF's 50th anniversary celebration went on for longer than just one night.

Last week, the British loudspeaker manufacturer invited industry folks and press members to the East 51st street Manhattan penthouse of Lopez to fete the company's golden anniversary in high style -- including bringing in a pair of KEF's super-sleek Blade speakers for just that night to mark the occasion.

The temporary audio setup looked and sounded quite fine in the Consul General's digs, despite the company's admission that the Blades could not be turned up too loud, because there were neighbors after all.

Still, the $30K pair of Blades and equipment rack full of Parasound gear made for a fitting backdrop as Lopez helped KEF celebrate its long-standing heritage.

A cake presented from the "Cake Boss" of TLC, Carlo's Bakery, was also temporary eye-candy for the festivities before being divvied up for guests.

Standing in front of an image showing the evolution of KEF's speakers over 50 years, Lopez and USA Division president Alec Chanin each took the mic briefly and noted the importance of research and innovation to the company's success.

Lopez and Chanin justifiably took pride in KEF's not only being a rare loudspeaker company that has endured as long as 50 years, but also a British company doing so. By sheer coincidence, Lopez mentioned, the company gets to celebrate its anniversary and legacy as its home country gets to prepare for the worldwide spectacle of the upcoming 2012 London Olympics.

And for a country that has produced some of the most incredible and important music of the last 50 years, a British-stamped pair of Blades surely provides a pretty sweet way to listen to it.
