Is this the Dorkiest Product & Pitchman of CES 2011?

To demonstrate the geekiest product at CES -- the PeopleMove Uplift I1 wearable Zipline case for iPhone -- takes a special kind of geek.

Mark Smith demonstrates the PeopleMove Uplift Wearable Zipline Case for the iPhone. Can you just hear his kids? ““Daaaaad, you’re such a dork!”

There are so many geeky people and products at the Consumer Electronics Show, it's hard to narrow it down to the geekiest.

But I feel pretty confident about my selection of Dorkiest Product and Pitchman for CES 2011.

His name is Mark Smith, principal of the new company PeopleMove. The product is an iPhone case with a built-in zipwire, the likes of which are found on the keychains of many-a-custodian.

The new Uplift from PeopleMove is so dorky, we don't even know quite what to call it or how to spell it. They show it on the Web site as Uplift l1. Is that like Uplift with the letter "i" and the number one? Or is that first line a pipe as in Life|ware?

Yep, still dorky
In any case, the PeopleMove Uplift Wearable Zipline Case for the iPhone is "Worn like a necklace for optimal convenience," according to the company Web site.

Indeed, founder Mark Smith wore his just like a necklace, if you're talking about a necklace that you can extend and retract to suit the need. Pull it out when you need to answer the phone or take a picture; release it to scurry about the show floor unimpeded.

With enthusiasm only an uber-geek could muster, Smith showed us how an optional magnet necklace, worn under the shirt, "holds your phone in a stable manner and prevents the annoyance and inconvenience of it swinging out from your body when leaning forward."

I asked Smith if he has children, because I can only imagine what it must be like walking around with him in public. He tells me that his five-year-old daughter is still a little too young to give him one of those eye-rolls and a "Daaaaad, you're such a dork!"

The first versions of Uplift will be available soon for the iPhone and Blackberry, at price points yet to be determined.

You gotta watch this video, and then you tell me if you saw anything that competes with this geek-itude.

Can they make one for my remote??? That is a real geek product. Should have a built in pocket protector type pen holder on the back!

Even this redneck has a little geek in me. However, this product would make me more a dork wouldnt it? smile

Really?
Because after seeing Julie sport it I kind of had it in my mind that it was the perfect gift for the wife.
Imagine the surprise on her face when she is expecting silly diamonds and unwraps the PeopleMove Uplift Zipline Case!

Genius!

I’m going to be married forever! smile

That was out of hand!

mbuzzard: the product? the writeup? Whitevan’s misguided belief that the wife wants one of these?

Posted by TC  on  01/18  at  12:19 PM

I want my click back.

JJ - all of the above, except the writeup of course… I always enjoy your facetious reports! That magnet’s pretty sweet though!
