Inside CEDIA’s Future Technology Pavilion
CEDIA's Future Technology Pavilion is designed to replicate the next generation of whole-home installations.
To borrow from Ferris Bueller, technology moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
CEDIA Expo 2011 is giving integrators a chance to look at what could be the (near) future of their home installations. During the Sept. 7-10 show at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, you will be able to tour the Future Technology Pavilion, which is sponsored by CE Pro and is being constructed to “simulate a future home environment,” according to CEDIA.
Filled with products from a slew of manufacturer sponsors, the pavilion features flowing room vignettes designed by New England-based firm Symbol Logic founder David Tkachuk, a certified member of the Imaging Science Foundation and Audio Engineering Society.
Attendees who visited the exhibit last year will find a marked difference when they peruse the pavilion (open during show floor hours) this time around. “We’ve put a much larger emphasis on replicating an actual home this year instead of segmented rooms,” says CEDIA director of technology David Pedigo. “This year is the first time that we are integrating most of the products within the pavilion.”
The 50-by-50-foot booth area focuses on six main areas: kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, office and garage.
Technologies run the gamut from what you are accustomed to offering (think distributed audio, hidden speakers), to what you may already be considering adding to your services (remote monitoring and diagnostics, home health tech), to what you will likely be integrating perhaps five years from now (solar, electric car charging).
“The pavilion is designed to show forward thinking and creativity,” Pedigo says. “Many of the products are available, but are still at the early-adopter stage.”
Here’s a sample of what you will encounter, and potential benefits to clients, according to CEDIA.

Update on Aug. 31, 2011: CEDIA has released the following video featuring 3D renderings of the CEDIA Future Technology Pavilion.
