Company announces residential system package that cuts SKUs by 60% and price by 25%. Will others follow suit?
10.03.2008 — In a sign of the times,
Hubbell Wiring Systems has reduced the cost of its netSELECT Basic Residential Structured Wiring System by 25 percent by packaging several items together.
The package also cuts the number of SKUs by about 60 percent.
The 120-year-old company is prominent in the electrical field and is now targeting builders and custom companies with its residential wiring.
CE Pro's recent
Top 30 Structured Wiring Dealers survey showed a dramatic drop in the number of installations by the volume installers.
It will be interesting to see if other structured wiring manufacturers start touting reduced pricing, even with the current high price of copper and petroleum that influences cable manufacturing costs.
Hubbell's new offering consists of three basic elements:
- The netSELECT ‘Triple Play’ Plate that incorporates a Cat 5e jack with A or B wired network flexibility, with a C5e molded-in icon. It also features a 6-position USOC RJ-25 jack, with telephone molded-in icon. For CATV and satellite applications, the plate is equipped with an F-Type connector
- netSELECT 10-inch ‘Mini-Metal’ Enclosure with multiple knock-out options and the option to change-out the top or bottom plates. The metal enclosure comes with a module-mounting pattern that allows center module mounting
- The netSELECT 6-Port Combination Module to collect and distribute phone, CATV and Cat 5e data. The module is designed to work with Hubbell's 10-inch metal enclosure and triple-play plate to create a comprehensive residential network with minimal investment
Hubbell did not release the price of the new package.
