Editor’s Picks: 15 Top Products of 2011
Between product reviews, manufacturer visits and trade shows, CE Pro comes in contact with many products. Here are the best products Robert Archer saw in 2011.
At some point, those who work in the custom installation markets may look back on 2011 and determine it was a year where the line separating retail and custom electronics was permanently blurred.
For years, an installer could look at a product and say that was a “retail” or “custom” solution. But with recent market trends and new technology advancements, it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish the two.
A couple examples include B&W’s (Bower & Wilkins) latest product release and Spin Clean’s MKII record cleaning system. B&W is a traditional specialty/custom electronics manufacturer, but its new C5 headphones cross into the world of personal audio.
In the case of Spin Clean, the world of vinyl has typically been dominated by old-school two-channel audio shops. Increasingly, installers are offering their clients analog products to satisfy their renewed interest in LPs.
The good news is that with the public’s growing interest in computer audio and analog vinyl, installers are finding new opportunities to grow their revenues.
Taking a closer look at the products I encountered this year, I came up with a diverse group that represents the blurring lines between the retail and custom installation product markets.
