09.09.2009 — Atlanta — Highlighting Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Volume as well as demonstrating a broad array of products enhanced by advanced surround sound technologies like Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Pro Logic IIz, Dolby Laboratories, Inc. demonstrated how exceptional audio can deliver richer, more memorable and enjoyable entertainment experiences.

Richer, More Immersing Audio Experience

Dolby demonstrated how the coding efficiencies of Dolby Digital Plus, which provides up to 7.1 channels of surround sound, make it an ideal solution for delivering high-definition multichannel audio in streamed media and movie download applications. Today, Vudu is using Dolby Digital Plus to deliver the audio experience on its download service to select HDTVs and Blu–ray Disc players from LG Electronics.

“Vudu and LG are part of a broader trend we're seeing when it comes to digital entertainment. People want high-definition movie entertainment experiences, but they also demand choice and convenience. Vudu’s service, enhanced by Dolby Digital Plus, offers a very compelling way to deliver great audio on Internet-connected devices,” said Eggers.

Offering More Control Over Listening Experience

Dolby showed how its technologies can make entertainment more enjoyable by giving people more control over their listening experience. The company highlighted home audio products from Anthem, ARCAM, AudioControl, Bryston, Emotiva, Harman-Kardon, Integra, Onkyo, Sherwood, and Parasound as well as HDTVs from Toshiba that use Dolby Volume to manage fluctuating volume levels.

Dolby Volume is a breakthrough audio-processing technology that provides a consistent volume level across all content sources and creates a reference-quality listening experience at any level.

“People asked for a solution to loudness in the living room and Dolby delivered. The next step is to bring the benefits of Dolby Volume to a broader audience. Today there are a variety of products available with Dolby Volume, but we’re working closely with our partners to communicate the benefits of this technology so we can offer even greater choice in the year ahead,” added Eggers.

Support for Dolby Pro Logic IIz

At CEDIA, Dolby showcased growing industry support for Dolby Pro Logic IIz, its newest matrix decoding technology that adds the dimension of height to surround sound playback.

Announced at ICES in 2009, Dolby Pro Logic IIz has quickly been built into the latest home audio products from Denon, Integra, Marantz, Onkyo, and Parasound. Building upon the marketplace adoption of Dolby Pro Logic IIz, Atlantic Technologies and Russound have recently introduced speaker systems designed to enhance the performance of height channel reproduction.

Dolby underscored how the world’s leading studios and device makers are using Dolby TrueHD to deliver consumers a great listening experience on Blu-ray disc. Nearly 500 titles from 33 studios currently feature Dolby TrueHD and more releases are expected in the next few months.

Dolby TrueHD decoding and playback is featured in the majority of Blu-ray disc players and is becoming a primary technology in next-generation home audio systems, including A/V receivers and home-theater-in-a-box products.
